Anyone getting charged an international fee on domestic shipment if buyer uses a foreign card?

Just checking.

Had my first decent sale in months today, and am shipping to Texas.  eBay is charging me $16+ for an "international fee" even though I don't ship internationally, and this painting isn't going to a foreign country.

C.S. and a C.S. "Supervisor" insist it's a valid charge because the guy's registerd address is in Mexico, even though the shipping address is TX.

Your title may be a little off. The buyer may or may not be using a "foreign card". EBay assess the fee based on either the buyers shipping address or their registered address. Your buyer is in Texas and they may or may not be using a "foreign card" but if their registered eBay address is foreign you still get hit with the fee.

The same applies to any US registered buyer who happens to have an international shipping address because they are traveling or stationed overseas. So they may have a US bank CC but you still get hit with the international fee unless of course you happen to be using the EIS program.

This fee is based on the buyer's registered address.  The buyer may or may not be in Texas, but clearly that is where they are having it shipped to according to the OP.

EIS doesn't kick in for a domestically ship to address for a foreign buyer.  I misstated that in an earlier post.

This is a fee we have paid since the start of electronic payments.  When PayPal was our money processor we paid this fee and now we pay it to Ebay instead of PayPal because MP is our processor.  So since about 2012 this has been a thing.

Now a benefit of being in EIS is Ebay is NOT charging us this international selling fee.  Just something to consider.

While this is a correct statement, it doesn't apply for an order that is shipped to a domestic address.  Sorry, I should have explained that better.

Ebay doesn't make him unhappy.  He's stating his displeasure of being charged a fee that he shouldn't be charged.  Rightfully so, I might add.  Just because he opposes an Ebay process doesn't automatically make him unhappy, or even negative.

It's your fault that you take his statement in that manner.  Just as most of the "cheer squad" take criticism aimed at Ebay as being negative in nature.

In the OP's case that is correct. What I was attempting to point out was the OP's title about "foreign card" is not entirely accurate. A US registered buyer using a US bank CC who happens to be stationed overseas with a foreign shipping address would also cause the seller to be hit with an international fee.

Correct, but Paypal allowed the user to not accept foreign payment sources, as do most other payment handlers.

I use EIS (Ebay International Shipping) which avoids international transaction fees.

MP’s “international fee” is its version of credit card “cross border fees”:

Why shouldn't he be charged?  Everyone else is and has been for about 11 years.  It isn't just Ebay's process, it was PayPal's too.  Nothing new here at all.

Yes but you have to be shipping internationally.  The OP is not.

Yes...they existed before then, but 2021 is when Ebay launched their shiny new 3 products:
Promoted Listings Express
Promoted Listings Advanced
External Promoted Listings
And since that "launch"?
The last 3 quarters of 2021? Loss of sellers and declining GMV.
All 4 quarters of 2022? Same.
1st quarter of 2023? Same.
I know...It's just a coincidence, eh?
One man's idea of "bashing" is another man's "concern" over the direction Ebay is heading.
Anyway, I do admire the way it's tore the  "community" to shreds.
We really weren't much of one in the first place, but watching it devolve into the "attack the messenger" dumpsterfire it is now?
Priceless.

It has? This forum is puppy dogs and ice cream compared to some forums I've been on! 🤣

IAC, people are welcome to complain (not that it does any good here - eBay doesn't take direction from people on their bolt-on forum) but sometimes the 'messenger' is someone trying to explain how things work around here...but apparently that's cheerleading?

Well it certainly makes their motive crystal clear.  😎

I've learned that there are two reasons some posters get labeled a cheerleader.  If they disagree with the person calling them a cheerleader or anyone that can explain how any given rule works is a cheerleader.  They don't have to agree with it, in fact they can disagree with it, yet because they can explain it, their are a cheerleader.

I haven't reached the rarefied level of being called a shill, or even more exalted, an *~employee~* though.  ::cries:: Maybe my jokes are just too corny or I need better meme culture.

Anyway, I'm not even sure why we still have this fee, because as far as I have been able to find out so far there's no real risk or indemnity involved, which should really be rolled into the currency conversion fee anyway - which is danged high enough for us who have to pay it.

I've been called everything you can think of and some you can't.  🤣

What I'm seeing more and more on the threads is the behavior of posting on Social Media bleeding over into our forums.   And people having no toleration for those that don't see things exactly as they do.  That is really very sad.  There is so much to be learned from each other.

I enjoy your jokes.  It often helps when a thread is getting too heavy.

I don't like the fee any better than anyone else, but I'm in EIS now and most of those fees will now go away for me.  I'll only have to pay on domestic shipments.  I'm fine with that.  It is better than it was.
