I just got a weird email saying I need to update or verify account info, link leads to kycremedyweb.ebay
I've gotten so many fishing emails in the last few months from paypal, mcafee, norton, and others that this looks sketchy to me.
Even though there's a banner on my dashboard now I'm worried the hackers have gotten so good they can do that too. The last paypal email had a link that went to paypal but said I owed 1000 dollars... No such transaction existed on paypal when I signed in.
Anyway I'm wondering if any you other sellers have gotten the same email and banner from ebay? What is this? Why after all these years do I need to provide any such information?
I'm legitimately spooked. I don't even trust the "have us call you" thing either. HELP!

That's a FAKE email.

Ok, but how did they get a link banner on my ebay homepage?

If you get the banner on eBay it's legit. They ask for verification every so often at random; they did it to me about a year or so back (after I had already been on MP for over a year). Just go the microdeposits route and it's no big deal.

was it a kycremedy link address? I really hate this stuff. There's really no legitimate way to put customers at ease with giving personal data online anymore. The fishing fraud is getting better by the day. And now ebay doesn't even have a phone number that I can call to verify this. Having some rando call me isn't making me feel at ease.

Yes, remedyweb is the legit link address.
Editing to add: yes, an EMAIL can be faked. The banner on your Seller Hub cannot.

I little over a week ago I had a call with ebay corporate about the many issues sellers are beginning to see lately.
Slightly over 1% of my sales are returned from people that have not updated their shipping address as well as their phone numbers while this number is relatively small......it still accounts for about 6 returns a month for me.
It is a pain in the butt! Infrequent buyers should have to verify their identity and confirm their address and phone number. Amazon does this....but I have never seen ebay do it...... certainly doing something like this at point listing or checkout would be a really big help

I stand corrected, I hope.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll have to take the chance. From what my research has gathered it is an official ebay thing. I just wish there was more sensitivity for us when it comes to giving up personal information. For me, this was just really bad timing on their part as I've been inundated with a lot of fishing schemes as of late. Seems the fraudsters are ramping up their attacks lately.
In this case it seems ebay is just guilty of a "too soon" moment.
They'll do great in the bad timing awards.

I got the red banner on my seller dashboard as well this morning, you can update your info from the seller dashboard. I would still recommend you do not update any personal info from any email. Update from the dashboard.
