Any sole proprietors out there selling under a DBA or FBN?

So I'm trying to to switch my eBay account from 'individual' to 'business,' however I don't see any option to be a sole proprietor with DBA (and EIN)? Seems like I'd have to select that I'm a 'legal entity,' however I'm not an LLC, corporation, nonprofit, etc. Is anyone out there a sole proprietor but selling under your DBA on eBay? I tried calling support, but they didn't know. Frustrating.

If you are a sole proprietor, your business type will be labeled as individual and your name will be considered the business name. In the eyes of the IRS anyway.

If you select Sole Proprietor, you will be able to enter your DBA name, which will be used in place of your personal name when displayed to buyers and for ship from and return to addresses.  You also will be able to enter your EIN for the IRS, although you will still be entering your personal name and SSN for identification.

Also remember if you use a DBA bank account, it is your personal name on the bank account that has to match exactly the personal name on your ebay business account, not the DBA names.

If you have a Sales Tax exemption certificate to upload, your name and the DBA names must match, but you can assign them to any ebay ID you have.

You are NOT an 'entity'... unless you are.

Otherwise; you are an 'individual' operating as a 'business'.

Therefore, you are an 'individual'.

I would suggest registering with your state as an LLC. When I did it was well under $200 to do, and once you have if you incur a business failure you may be able to protect your personal assets from business debts. An EIN is free and takes moments. Then you can change your status to business and have your 1099 come in your business name and EIN (just remember to do your business taxes!)

Legal entities are exactly what is in your photo in your question -  corporation, LLC, Partnership or non-profit, all of which have an EIN and specific tax categories and filings. If you are a sole prop DBA, you have to check with your state to see what your filing requirements are so that you are recognized by them. I'm a sole prop DBA as a domain name legally in the state of New York. But, your state may not require it. It just changes the name, nothing else. You are still responsible for the whole enchilada.

Ebay does not require you to have any certifications to use a business name under your individual account. Your registered information must be exactly the same as that on your checking account tho.  You can name it whatever you want, as long as it isn't already used and doesn't violate their policies. https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/identity-policies/username-policy?id=4235&st=3&pos=5&query=Userna...
