Another store bites the dust

The second store that I had to close in the past 2 months, with a 3rd on the chopping block. I'm so glad that I don't rely on eBay for an income, or I'd be in trouble. Now I have that Queen song stuck in my head.

Time Machine - I feel for you but........

Unfortunately, collectibles are just not were it's at presently! I sold those types of things very successfully at the beginning of eBay, still dabble a bit because I like the stuff, but the current crop of buyers are into collecting the newest and best electronics, phones, etc!

When antiques & collectibles started dying out, I did a lot of vintage clothing, now that isn't as hot anymore and MUCH harder to find, so I sell mostly newer clothes and whatever else I think I can make a few $$ on! With all the Asian competition, even that is getting harder all the time and prices are currently a race to the bottom but I am still here, although making 1/2 of what I did just a few short years ago!

I really have no interest in selling mass-marketed commodities or close-outs for pennies on the $, I crave the creativity of selecting my own merchandise, but to some extend, you have to adjust to the marketplace or get left further behind.  Your stuff is great, but just not very desirable to the current eBay marketplace!

Collectibles sell elsewhere. They even sell in auction format. Pretty amazing for a genre and format that's "dead", eh?

Normal peaks and valleys in sales as well as interest in certain collectibles  are perfectly normal and sellers plan for this. However, only on eBay  do we go from full throttle to a dead stop overnight with no in betweens. When every buyer on the planet seems to want what you're selling on Wednesday does every buyer in the world wake up Thursday not wanting it and then stay that way? It defies logic.

Wanting to blame the seller trying to convince them that it's what they sell or the price has some merit, but when other sellers are selling the same stuff and YOUR stuff is still moving elsewhere but eBay has suddenly "dropped off a cliff"... which is always  how it happens here- ah, no. We all know the "you are selling the wrong stuff/ overpriced" reasons don't apply. Problem is even the VIEWS just stop- without explanation or logic.

How do you explain the VIEWS?

Chaos is NOT an "industry standard".

feeling the pain also, i dont understand why they stopped working alongside google, surely thats the problem here

I use to get between 25 and 50 page views a day from Google, and every month over the past 2 1/2 years it has shrunk gradually. No ups or downs, just a tapered slope until this year. I finally reached the bottom of the slope, and I no longer get Google page views anymore.

Now the downward slope is just my eBay page views that are shrinking. When they are all gone, this account will be Dead. eBay will have reached the last notch on the spigot.

I would normally agree if my poor sales extended past eBay and my personal accounts on eBay, but they don't. What's becoming very interesting is that my Xmas sales here were completely dead, yet the same items that I was selling were selling and for more money than mine including shipping.

I could see that happening here and there, as someone views a sellers inventory an spots an item and does the impulse buy, without checking prices. But to happen all the time was no longer a coincidence.

I have a bunch of relatives that have inactive accounts on eBay, so I contacted them, in Jan, and a few agreed to let me run my items through them as a test. Wouldn't you know it. My sales have been pretty good and fairly steady on their accounts. It's the same stuff that I keep adding to this account that doesn't sell.

So the question is...Why does it sell on their accounts, and not on mine? That's the million dollar question that only eBay can answer.

Ironically I'm wearing my Iron Maiden Number of the Beast T-shirt right now. My mother sent it to me for Xmas last year. So, I called her up and asked her if she thought I was still a kid.

My daughter's almost 30 and she's still a kid, and she better not come up with any snarky reply when I say so, because I'm her mom, and well, I say so!

Re: Another store bites the dust

I think in your case, it is competition.  I looked at other cuff bracelets (my area is vintage jewelry) and yours is off the chart price wise.  I also dont think it is as old as stated because it is stamped - something they didnt start doing untl the late 70s.  Very nice piece and I saw several other items that were great and a few that were even worth what you are asking but there are just so many others for lower prices.

I was a TRS for almost 2 years until I ran out of good stuff to sell 🙂

I never had a store and still never would...waste of money, when search engine doesnt work.

Me neither.  I just cant justify paying up front before I sell anything IF I sell anything.  OH and news from the other E - they have gone to a 3 disputes in a 12 month scale period to toss sellers.  Just when their sales are down overall they start tossing sellers who list and pay fees.  Sounds like the old Ebay...

I believe it has everything to do with the year each account is opened, the server your accounts are on, and the tests those accounts have been subjected to.

Those undisclosed tests serve to undermine your business model, create friction between seller and buyer, and cause general havoc through no fault of yours.

I have 3 accounts that were on completely unequal footing, though I saw ebay scrambling to get all 3 equally into the worst case scenario.  I had considered opening a store, and then came the summer update.  Not gonna happen.

Rather than subject myself to more failure, and seeing that even my most favorably positioned account was headed fo disaster, I removed all items from my accounts in May, hoping the dust would settle. Waited a few weeks, and reformatted, relisted, only to see that views were even worse now.

Bringing these failings to light is our only recourse, as if it matters.  Nothing but spin from the talking heads here.  I'm not hopeful that management of listings will be reverted back to sellers, rather than fodder for ebay and their poor programming skills.  Everything is broken here.

Yes... everything is broken here. Just look around the boards. This is why it's hard to have any confidence in eBay whatsoever when a Blue comes in telling us things like "Hey, eBay will protect you from double charges and defects if your buyer can't print their return label" and "We've referred this to the appropriate team and they will fix it".

This place is like Red Green: "If it ain't broke... you're not trying!"... only Red Green is very amusing.

I noticed lately that as eBay has made a number of site changes, that the bugs and glitches are ramping up. Getting out of hand I think overall.

Glad to hear. At least we know that Ebay is doing OK, other sellers are doing OK, and they are just picking on you. I would call customer service and chat with them to see why they are picking on you and let them know what you've been doing. Maybe they can help you. Don't hang up until you get answers. Good Luck.

Trust me, if you got good stuff to sell...list normally...and if folks want it...they will buy.

Good advice. Yes, when you list items not in demand or over-priced and buyers are not willing to buy those items then definitely a store is not worth it. At some point a seller with a store needs to do a little accounting and figure that out.

Sorry, but still confused.  So if a store is located in China or Tiawan, and they can sale items (100,000's hundreds of thousands) for just a penny ... yes, just 1 cent, with FREE SHIPPING to the United States, how does an honest U.S. seller battle that?  How can a seller in China, sell an item for exactly .01  to a whopping .99 cents with free shipping?  I guess I'll see.  Started buying some of those offerings.  Heck, if I can buy something for just a penny with NO shipping cost, then maybe, just maybe I can actually start re-selling and making some money.  Hang in there timeless!  Maybe we can turn the tables?  If nothing else, my daughter will enjoy her new stuff for only a penny or two!
