We just had a final value fee discount promo end and another one started today. Soooooo.....
Sure, it's going to help our bottom line. But at the time being, half of our inventory is in unsold listings. I don't see how ebay benefits off of giving us a discount on fees, but no extra listing potentials. Does anybody else understand this? Not saying it isn't a great gesture and we're definitely appreciative but we also want EBAY to succeed. We had one sale over this past friday and saturday and the buyer just asked to cancel the transaction because they're having paypal issues. We're not here to complain about a slow weekend by any means, but you have to wonder if we had more inventory listed if we could have made another sale or two (been out of alotted premium store listings for a minute...)
Not sure these promos are best for Ebay. It's like the IRS just saying here, we have enough money, you guys keep a little extra for the next couple years. We'll let you know when we need all your money again. 🙂 🙂 🙂 No way does that make sense.
Thoughts?

That's 30 cents spent with NO GUARANTEE of a sale, AND the possibility of a hidden listing.
For ebay, it's a GUARANTEED 30 cents.
Yeah and it discourages people from listing 100 items hoping one sells precisely like it is supposed to do.

If the OP cannot afford to pay 30 cents to list an item it is most likely not worth listing. Maybe group items together in a single lot to make it worth listing for 30 cents. The OP's buyers can see his listings, nothing hidden.

I'm usually referred to as an Ebay troll or Rah Rah - but even I am disgusted with the lack of sales for the holiday season. I have NWT items priced well below what even the stores are selling at with free shipping. The cost isn't too low to make a buyer question what's wrong with it and not too high that the buyers says I can get it cheaper elsewhere.
I've replied to many posts as to why sales are down and those reasons are all valid - but there are still shoppers out there who don't want to brave the stores so we should have some sales. I had more sales in one week with the 1000 free listing promo last year and millions more listings cluttering up the site than I have had in the last 30 days - that's bad.
I still believe in Ebay and want it to succeed but even I am beginning to wonder whether it's worth it.

I do not understand how extra free listings is not good for business especially since Ebay makes money off of the sales.
I mean come on lets get our head in the game!!!!
Just my thoughts.Because extra free listings leads to more junk on the site. There are almost 20,000,000 listings for cell phone cases right now, 20 freaking million. Do we really need a million more jamming up the servers?
So? Why would anyone want to try to compete in the Chinese garbage categories anyway? It isn't as if people just go to the first page and then do a search for everything listed on the site instead of doing specific searches for what they are after. Let them have their cesspit of the cheap junk while those who still deal in vintage and collectibles continue to list (and yes, even sell) without being muscled out by the flood.
Some categories just are not worth dabbling in or otherwise clinging to.

I don't mind braving the stores, it's the mall parking lots that scare me this time of year
For me, it is the icy passes along I84 that is the biggest show stopper this time of year; whether north to LaGrande 45 miles away where the nearest Wal-Mart is, or east toward Ontario, Caldwell/Nampa, and Boise where everything else is at.
Plus, I don't do holiday shopping. I observe No Reason Whatsoever Day instead for my gift giving as I am able, and prefer to focus on enjoying the family togetherness and copious amounts of food associated with the holidays.
Just hoping I don't end up with some little kid following me around with a tuba.

Like it or not you (and I, because I sell primarily vintage too) will be competing with them soon enough. Probably half of the porcelain signs on eBay right now are repops from the far east. Now they are copying retired Lego sets and listing them here openly. You are correct about the cesspool part.

Sorry - I completely missed that part.

Crack down on the Chinese sellers and see alot of junk vanish. Never gonna happen.

Whoever is in charge of promos is definitely skimping on the free listings this holiday season. I feel like heads are going to roll after the holidays.
