Just saw this...Looks like it is only on the AU site. I'm sure it will make it to the US site after they are done testing it there. Wow.

Also being tested in Germany.

I wonder what the extra cost is to sellers for their items to qualify for "Plus."

Why can't ebay realize that while the original Mona Lisa is worth millions, a copy of the Mona Lisa is only worth maybe $19.99.
And a not very good copy of the Mona Lisa has no value at all.

Amazon's net income in Q1 2018 was $1.62 billion, but eBay's was not too shabby at $548 million.
So I think eBay has clearly demonstrated there is plenty of value in their "copy".
And plenty of people seem to be using that copy - you still have listings here, after all!

Etsy's launching their own Plus this month.

Do you have a link to any information about that? I'd love to read about it! The only Etsy subscription services I'm aware of are Etsy Plus and Etsy Premium. Both are seller packages for tools above and beyond Etsy Standard . . .

Thanks for the heads up and information. Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but after looking at the video it appears they're piloting a Prime membership program clone in Europe that will most likely make it elsewhere if successful.
I can't legally name names but this is how tens of thousands of companies test new features and programs before rolling it out to other markets. Maybe some haven't attributed the parts to Prime, but it is. They've only upsold a few things to make it seem different but if you've had Prime before or still do then you know.

That's for sellers. The program in the OP's link is for buyers.

What's funny is that eBay is trying to copy prime while the folks behind prime are trying to fix the holes in the service and build the next great thing.
In 2 years prime will have evolved and eBay will finally be a copy of prime 2018....
Why not try and create a great site that the other guy will have to study?

...And I love how in all of the photos on eBay of people opening up their packages, they boxes say 'eBay' and there are eBay stickers and tape carefully put on it. They really want you to think that your stuff is coming directly from eBay, like Amazon.
In the photo on the Plus page, she has a box that says 'eBay Plus' on it. I bet that is going to be the next thing to go in to the eBay Shipping Supplies store.

Want a good promo for eBay.
Give sellers eBay bucks so they buy things. Sell $1000 worth of stuff and get a $25 certificate. Offer a function so that if someone sells $100 worth of stuff and then uses that money to buy $100 worth of stuff eBay throws in something.

I'm not here to leverage insults at eBay or it's sellers but the harsh reality from speaking to several people in eBay's upper management is they are simply incapable of innovating. Those of us in specific industries have known this for over 12 years now.
You would get chills if I told you how many brands I've contracted for that decided to simply give up and copy what works for their competitors.
You do make a solid point which I like and I made a statement on this week. When you copy something as complex as another sites programs and features, you genuinely don't know what you're bringing with it because you've tried to shave 10 of millions of dollars from research and the needed talent to effectively execute it. When eBay has finally made the perfect clone of these programs, Amazon and other platforms will have already rolled out their virtual fitting rooms (they're heavily testing this now), other technologies and Prime in particular will be a much more mature program offering while eBay's version will be the recent graduate who really doesn't know what they think they know.
Amazon is the teacher, eBay is the student and true to the analogy "who was once the teacher has now become the pupil".
