Announcements: USPS Increase and "Negotiated" Lower Rates

I just noticed this in Announcements ...

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/USPS-Shipping-Rates-are-Changing-and-eBay-Has-Negotiated...

It says "eBay has been able to negotiate with the USPS on behalf of sellers and secure a significant discount for eBay labels. While this still means a slight increase in the average cost of shipping an item using USPS, sellers who use eBay labels can save up to 25% on First Class Package Service and up to 24% on Priority Mail* "

But the fine print says: *Compared to USPS retail rates. Negotiated Commercial Plus pricing is available via eBay Labels to all eBay Top-rated sellers and sellers with an average of 300 or more transactions per month.

So ... it looks like eBay is taking credit for the published ComBase and ComPlus Rates again 🙂

That should read "eBay has been able to negotiate with the USPS on behalf of UNITED STATES sellers and secure a significant discount for eBay labels."

Why aren't they crowing about the e-packet deal they negotiated with CHINESE sellers???

All those averages and percents are meaningless without some concrete examples.  It sure does sound like eBay is taking credit for regular online (Commercial Base) rates and the "negotiated" Commercial Plus rates for TRS and high-volume sellers.  Is this any different from the current situation?

How is a seller supposed to take action on their advice "If you use flat-rate shipping, review your listings to see if your flat rate covers the price increases. You may have to raise your flat-rate charges to maintain the same margins" without a link to the new pricing charts?  Here's one:

Glad they are so helpful.

The other E site gives you that anyway, plus 100.00 insurance, plus 1.00 per extra 100 for insurance.

Seems they aren't very good 'negotiators'. Not that they negotiated anything .... they are using Pitney Bowes - the retail charge vs. the discounted charge is simply a flag in their setup info.

The $100 insurance is part of ComPlus on Priority, it isn't something extra 😉

When they negotiate rates for US sellers like the rates they negotiated for Chinese sellers they'll get my attention. Till then it's just noise.

I'd be happy with the actual negotiated rate that Pitney Bowes gets (or even the rate that PB sells to eBay) LOL

Pitney Bowes negotiates their rate and then upcharges eBay who then very *ahem* magnanimously gives us sellers the published rate ... crack negotiating, there 🙂

Yeah, their negotiating skills aren't something I'd be crowing about.

I know. I meant that everyone gets comm+ over there.

@penguins_dont_fly

They didn't negotiate anything ... I don't think the percentages have changed, the 24% is a number I seem to remember seeing on a recent Priority label I printed.  They also have failed to negotiate anything with FedEx to clean up that mess on the overcharges Sellers get.

You can also see it on eBay's chart that compares the USPS rates for 2016 and 2017, though First Class savings is apparently up from 22% to 25% (if eBay's numbers are  correct; I didn't check them):

I know they didn't 😉 That's sorta my whole point 😉

But eBay's postage provider, Pitney Bowes, most likely has a negotiated contract where they pay the USPS a significant amount less than ComPlus.

ComBase and ComPlus is just what we peons end up with LOL

And eBay resisted giving us ComPLus rates on FCP for years, until USPS themselves changed it.
