Please see my listing:
There is a gigundous product description (obviously written by Nikon) that appears above what I personally wrote. I doubt anyone would scroll down to what I wrote. How did I get that, and how do GET RID OF IT?
If I try to revise my page, it looks as I intended it to be. And if I preview it it looks right. But if I go to my listing all that stuff is still there. Then my own write-up, then a whole bunch of reviews of the Nikon D2x by people who, it seems bought new ones!
What the HECK is going on?????

I'm kind of guessing maybe your new to ebay?
The camera is in eBay's "Product Catalog" which means ebay puts the catalog information in your listing. This is pretty basic ebay stuff. So are the reviews, which ebay also adds to listings for items that have been reviewed by buyers. Look at other ebay listings for cameras like yours, they probably have the same information. You can't remove it.

You can't remove it... yet YOU are responsible for every word in your listing!
Go figure!!

Honestly I find it helpful and comforting that that information is added, so long as it is accurate of course.
Most casual sellers on ebay do not bother to write any description at all or if they do it's usually just "Product X, condition is used."

< There is a gigundous product description >
Those details might have been inserted from eBay's product catalog. Maybe you checked a box, maybe eBay does it automatically. I don't know. See what it says here: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/listings/creating-managing-listings/listing-item-product-details-c...

Nikon D2X 12.4MP Digital Camera Body. Includes strap, body cap, viewfinder guard, charger, battery, manual. All in excellent condition. (This body did not get a lot of use, because once the D3X came out I bought one of those. This D2X body spent most of its life as a backup to my D3X, and the D3X never broke.) It is in very sweet condition. I did quite a bit of testing of this camera yesterday. Everything works perfectly. Cosmetically, you can see that it's basically flawless. I am the original owner; nobody else ever used it. Camera bought in the USA. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
Are you saying that you did NOT write this description ? That is what buyers are seeing.

I managed to get rid of that extra stuff just a minute ago.
It turns out that if you go to your listing and click on the Revise Your Item link, you can fix it. In the Description section, I kept clicking where it says More Details. I found something called MPN (which I think means Manufacturer's Product Number) which had been auto-filled. I thought maybe that was what linked me into all that Nikon-speak, so I deleted what was in that box. Then I clicked Revise It at the bottom of the page. Now the Nikon-speak is gone. Now, under my own blurb the reviews are still there. But I can live with that.

When I went back in, I was looking for the UPC code box, as I suspected that was the culprit. That had been auto-filled. But all I found was the MPN, I zapped that, and got rid of all the Nikon-speak.

Yes you can. See my post below.

Thanks. You were on the right track. See my posts below.

Sorry, I should have been a little more clear. You can't remove the reviews. You can remove the catalog information by removing the UPC or MPN or ISBN...whichever # ebay is using for the catalog. But this will also (I think) remove you from the item's product page, which means at least some buyers might never see your camera. And eventually ebay will probably make the MPN a required IS, but I guess that hasn't happened yet in cameras.

If you don't appear on the Product Page, it might not make much difference in this case, especially since you are running an auction, but it probably will reduce your visibility somewhat. Also, for fixed price items, keep in mind that if you'd like your item to show up in Google Shopping, you probably need the MPN filled in. So there are good reasons to fill that in, but, at least at this point, you aren't required to fill it in.

what i see is what YOU wrote in the description nothing more. Maybe you fixed it already and I'm not seeing your original issue. But when you enter UPC and ebay has a record of that UPC in their catalog at top of the create listing it will show a box you check to include that info or not, simply uncheck the box. That is the stuff that gets added above the description and just above your filled in item specifics.

nuclearomen, The catalog text had been there. The OP did indeed remove the MPN /UPC, which removed the catalog text, which is why you aren't seeing it.
