WOW I just read on Google that Target is Banning the sale of Trading cards and Pokemon cards. How Ironic? This is not good news.

Forgive me if I'm asking a stupid question: How is the fact that Target is banning the sale of trading cards "not good news"? Are there not other sources?

I believe they have banned in store sales only. Heard they will still sell that product online.

Temporarily (they say), because of a violent incident in Wisconsin. This was obviously not an isolated occurrence ... it seems that collectors and resellers have been getting out of hand lately 😞

Target has announced that it will temporarily stop selling trading cards -- of both the sports and Pokémon variety -- in stores following a recent violent dispute at one of its locations. A Target in Wisconsin was locked down after a man was physically assaulted by four others over sports trading cards.
"The safety of our guests and our team is our top priority," Target said in a statement to CNN. "Out of an abundance of caution, we've decided to temporarily suspend the sale of MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokémon trading cards within our stores, effective May 14. Guests can continue to shop these cards online, while supplies last."
The cards will still be available online, the company said.
Also ... some Walmarts are also pulling trading cards from shelves because of violence.

Our local news showed people lined up to get inside a Wal-mart at store opening to buy Pokemon tins. Evidently the tins (which are filled with card packs) are in short supply.

Well, when Air Jordan shoes first came out some people were being beaten and even killed so someone could steal their footwear.

I have to agree with the nerdist article:
”when guns enter a story about tiny pieces of cardboard with pictures on them, clearly things have gone too far”

Tell people they cant get or have something & watch them want it even more.
Dr. Seuss books anyone?

unfortunately, buyers are using discord bots for immediate notification when Target lists the cards (Pokemon and sports)...it has been impossible to make purchases on the Target site (doesn't help that their search function is terrible)

Why would I want to buy anything from Target (or Walmart) when Pikachu is forced to wear a mask? Sickening.

sports cards generally come in two types: hobby and retail. hobby prices are out of control (a new box of Prizm Basketball is selling for $3000+...the same product sold for maybe $350 a couple of years ago before the "craze" hit), so collectors have turned to retail versions. People are buying the supplies at Target and WalMart (the two main suppliers of retail nationwide), then flipping them to shop owners or selling them on eBay for ridiculously marked up prices. A "blaster box" (small retail box) of a hot new product will cost $20 or so at those stores, then be sold for $200-$300 on ebay or in the shops. there have been shoving/shouting confrontations, fights, threats to employees, and other sickening behavior just at the Walmarts in my local area. Walmart now keeps all Pokemon and sports cards locked up in electronics (people are lining up on delivery day). it's ruining the hobby.
