Hello all. I have what I think might be an issue and against eBay policies. I also think it might be a scam. I have an item for sale at a fixed price. I received a message through eBay from a buyer asking me a couple of questions. I responded to that buyer with my answers. Later I received directly from the buyer to my email address, not through ebay. In my opinion, this is probably a scam but want to get someone more experienced with ebay to give me their thoughts. Scam? Against policy? Thank you!
Hello,
I really appreciate your response to my email. I'll like to buy this item for the exact price, so I will employ you to withdraw it from eBay. I will also like you to know that the payment will be paid via a certified bank check. Kindly provide me with the information below to overnight the certified bank check to you.
Your full name to be on the check
Address
Apt#(If Any)
City, State Zipcode
Phone number
Regarding the shipping, I have a private shipping firm that handle pickups for me so you don't have to worry about that as it will be handled by them, so your price should exclude shipping fee
Kindly get back to me as soon as possible so the payment can be sent to you.

What a bunch of BULL in that message-People must think these new sellers have an IQ of 2, which of course, they don't.

Do you have it listed on any other sites where contact would be done through email?

@kathleeminaha0: Yes, it's a scam, but do please tell us (if you know) how they managed to get your direct email address. Did they ask you to email them photos (which you can actually do through eBay messaging now)? Did they say that they were having problems with their eBay account, and give you a different email address of their own for you to contact?

The OP said, " I received a message through eBay from a buyer asking me a couple of questions. I responded to that buyer with my answers. Both a scam and against policy. If you did not send your email address, my guess is you use a popular email provider and your email address is the same as your eBay user ID. The scammer probably sent emails to all the popular email providers in an attempt to guess your email. Ex: userID@gmail.com, userID@yahoo.com, userID@aol.com, etc.
