Action Required: (my name, but might as well be sucker) please register for managed payments

Latest email from the boss man ebay. Aren't there Federal financial laws that prohibit these kind of moves by a business? I guess we are going to be forced into managed payments one way or the other. I wish the FTC would crawl up ebay's you know what. I think the action required is to find some other way to sell my stuff.

Re: Action Required: (my name, but might as well be sucker) please register for managed payments

Hello, Brian. I am too old and tired to draw lines in the sand most of the time. In this case, I need to. I have put myself on a timetable to ease myself out of eBay before MP becomes mandatory. Your recent invitation/mandate is making me a little nervous about it.  This is affecting my listing schedule and long term planning. The day that I am forced into a program like MP that I totally disagree with will be the last day I participate in eBay in any way. There is a possibility that I could try to stay for a very short time to make my transition smoother, but it will be as short as possible and will not include allowing eBay into my financial affairs in any way. I hope we will be able to go the distance here after all these years. Sincerely, Jeff

Re: Action Required: (my name, but might as well be sucker) please register for managed payments

The idea that we even need to be forced, says a lot.  If we weren’t hearing all the complaints and regrets of sellers who volunteered for the program, if it wasn’t prematurely launched before absolutely necessary features were in place, if they didn’t originally promise big savings in fees only to eventually reveal the truth of per listing fees, if they didn’t underestimate the impact to sellers not having the ability to use their funds to pay for shipping, if sellers felt more confident that eBay would securely manage their money in a system that historically has been prone to glitches and bugs…

Then we’d all be tripping over each other to get in line for registration.  We wouldn’t need to be forced into it!

Don't worry about the specifics? Really? You are telling us not to concern ourselves with the details until we are forced to deal with them. This statement alone in very concerning. Sounds like something a 1980's used car salesman would say.

@hioctane62 - I’m in cab, saw this and want to be very clear. I clearly didn’t word that response well.

I’m not saying don’t worry about the specifics, as a business owner of course you will want to understand the details. We continue to add functionality, e.g. buyers can now pay with PayPal, additional reporting, etc. if those were your top concern they have been alleviated. If you want to spend time worrying about what is currently available vs. what will be available when you haven’t been invited, be my guest.

My point is it is likely a better use of time to go through that exercise when you are closer to registering - when you receive the invite - since we will have added capabilities and you may have been worrying for no reason.

Used car salesman? That’s a first for me 😀

And I’ll circle back to this discussion tomorrow am

Brian

Re: Action Required: (my name, but might as well be sucker) please register for managed payments

I am going to be flat out honest.  Ebay is struggling.  They banked all there coin on there partnership with china, at the expense of many sellers. IT DIDNT WORK.  They allowed rampant never ending site design changes to the detriment to USA sellers sales.  Beta testing on the best sellers while they seen steady declines in sales for this very reason.  The site manipulation of guiding buyers, free returns causing massive returns just to lock out sellers who left free returns and keeping 10% on top rated sellers,  There decision of taking there very niche, USED and COLLECTIBLES to change all to new,  drove away massive amounts of buyers and sellers, this didnt work, it ALL this, has backfired.  There losing money.  Don't tell me there not,  millions of people are born every day, growth MUST be a lot larger than there showing.

So since sellers are going to be FORCED into a program that ebay will make money on, for google pay does not charge sellers, neither does apple pay and so on, were still going to have to pay ebay for these transactions.

Also ebay does not make it clear why MOST sellers will see lower fees, for me that means MOST sellers will see more fees than paypal.

This all benefits ebays bottom line not us.  Anyone can buy here with a credit card now, what dif does it make.  Ebay is turning itself into paypal, and NONE of the above INJUSTICE i mentioned will change.   There will still have there wants and needs above sellers.  And that is that.

I received this email and I am in the Global Shipping Program. So why did I receive it? Am I going to eventually be forced to disable GSP and join MP because I received an invite, even though I should not have?

All,

Please post with your actual selling account - it doesn’t do me any good to send posting IDs to evaluate why a seller received the email . And it’s an extra step for us to link the accounts - I want to help, so help me help you.

Thanks

Brian

This sort of response to a poster's legitimate concerns would get most posters suspended from the discussion boards for a few days. Brian, you should be treated the same way in this instance!!!!!

Re: Action Required: (my name, but might as well be sucker) please register for managed payments

Brian, we received the same "action required" message on 3 of our accounts. All 3 accounts have been signed up for the global shipping program since almost the start of it and we regularly make sales through it. With that said, why were we included in the invite? There are plenty of other sellers that DO NOT use the global shipping program. Wouldn't it make more sense to have those of us that do use the global shipping program move to managed payments AFTER the global shipping program has been integrated?

It is unreasonable to expect sellers using and making sales through the global shipping program to lose that because eBay has failed to make it available through managed payments. If eBay wants more sellers to sign up for managed payments, they need to integrate those critical elements that sellers need. As it stands now eBay is expecting sellers to accept this new car with flat or missing tires! Is it any wonder they are having to force seller into it!

I would think that when you are trying to force an unwanted program on your customers that you would not use a condescending or arrogant spokesperson to try to do it. Probably just my skewed judgement, but it seems like that is what is happening here. Only serves to intensify the resistance to it.

Re: Action Required: (my name, but might as well be sucker) please register for managed payments

as a Canadian seller who uses both dotCOM and dotCA sites, I am watching this discussion with great interest as in due time this Managed Payment process will be our problem too. I have no intention of signing on with MP, so I have already moved 90% of my listings elsewhere. Unfortunately, I already know these other selling venues will never match my sales on eBay even though my eBay sales have dropped over 80% since 2016, having gone from the basic top rated seller status to a low volume casual seller due to lack of sales. However, I will continue listing on eBay until that fateful day when eBay says sign up for MP or else.

I hope your sales get better. Not looking for support or a revolt here, but I do think that if any sellers are truly committed to not using MP, this is a good time to state that to eBay in no uncertain terms. I did that today and am expecting some repercussions from it, but past the point of caring. In my opinion only, their spokesperson is giving arrogant answers to seller concerns.

Re: Action Required: (my name, but might as well be sucker) please register for managed payments

We received the "action required" email today.  Hubby came in and said we had to sign up, so I did - then I saw that they'll be charging $0.25 PER LISTING, plus the 2.7% . Also, they never mentioned anywhere that PayPal isn't still a checkout option for my customers, most of whom are overseas - we also use GSP for some items, so I guess we never should have received the forcted "invite" in the first place. Our biggest issue is this $0.25 per listing fee - our buyers regularly purchase 20+ items in a single transaction. I'm furious, both at myself for just signing up without digging further in, and at them for hiding this under the guise of "action required" and "save money"! This new move will cost me sooo much more than PayPal, and now I have to convince my overseas buyers (who are all older and used to doing things a certain way) to still purchase with me and pay a different way!!

No other payment processing company in the world charges you a fee FOR EVERY ITEM PURCHASED, plus the percentage. It is a PER TRANSACTION fee, plus %. I can't even fathom that they came up with this.  It's basically like adding another $0.25 onto the listing fee, except that having a store doesn't lessen it.

We have a call in to "opt out", but we'll see how that goes.

The rep I talked to on the phone was shocked and confused when I explained the "per listing" vs. per transaction fee...said that was obviously unacceptable to my business, and would go to bat for me to be opted back out. We'll see tomorrow.

Brian, HELP A GIRL OUT!

You cannot require me to do anything! You can try to motivate me, but you have failed doing that so far based on your track record. Nice try though.

They tried turning themselves into Amazon with their focus on NIB items instead of the vintage, discontinued, and hard-to-find item site that made them a household name.  Now with Managed Payments they're trying to take over everything that Paypal was best at handling.  The next latest and greatest focus will be their Managed Delivery as an "end-to-end fulfillment service".  And, you can bet that once Managed Delivery begins, everyone at eBay will want to stop playing with the old and boring Managed Payments toy so they can play with the bright and shiny new Managed Delivery toy and we'll be stuck with a disappointing, substandard, and inadequate payment system.

eBay seems to be having an identity crisis!  Instead of focusing on being the very best at the one thing that makes them exceedingly unique on the internet, they're becoming a very poor to average version of everyone else!

Sorry about that.  It's the PowerSeller Business discussion board.  I thought everyone had access to that.
