Account is below standard - all of a sudden

The other day I eceived notification that my account is below standard due to defect rate.  Does cancelling n order because you are out of stock count as a defect?  I am very upset about this, because I take great pride in selling on ebay, and I do my best to maintain the highest standards.  This has me really upset.  I can't get a hold of anyone from Ebay - I have tried.

Yes it causes a defect.

Cancelling for out of stock creates a poor buyer experience.

eBay does not like the buyer to have a bad experience.

You can check your "seller dashboard" to see your %age that caused the below standard.

Cancelling for "Out of Stock" does indeed give you a defect. You should monitor your Seller Dashboard on a regular basis. Why were you calling eBay?

Yes, selling something you don't have is one of the seven deadly sins on ebay. You have been on ebay for fifteen years and don't know that?  There are better workarounds than cancelling a paid for sale in your situation.

First of all you can contact the buyer and explain that you are looking for the item as it seems to be misplaced.  Then go order the item from another seller and forward it to the buyer once it arrives.  I am in the middle of doing this at the moment and sent a similar alternate item to the buyer I did have in stock and explained that they would be receiving the correct item at no cost in the near future.

In ten years selling here this happens once in a while when you juggle 60,000 inventory items.  It also seems that ebay's software makes the mistake of letting us relist a sold item when we relist in bulk.  Drives me nuts but many times I just drive to a supplier and find the same item to mail within 24 hours.

The fastest way to reach ebay is to ask for a call back at 2:20 a.m.   Works for me every time as they call within about two minutes or less.

I read my notification of items being removed around 1:45 am EST... I didn't know if eBay still had hours of 5am to 10pm PST... I asked for a call back at 2am, and got one back almost immediately. They weren't in a hurry to get off the phone.

For the OP, comply with what they are telling you and ask them how you can fix it. They are much more willing to work with people who do their best to comply with policies.

IMHO you need to find yourt selelr dashboard, study it, and understand how eBay evaluates seller performance. Your selling future depends upon it.
