I hope someone can help. I am selling a Wedgewood dish and checked others on Ebay before listing. Last night, I was sent an offer and was happy to send a counteroffer. I thought someone was trying to buy mine, however it was an offer from another seller of the same item. The counter offer was accepted and I was all ready to pack and get it ready to ship when I received a message that I need to pay for it. That's when I realized that I actually bid on someone else's. I immediately sent an email to the seller explaining the situation and asking them to cancel, but haven't heard back yet. I don't see any way to cancel on my end. Do I just wait it out or will I be dinged for non-payment? Frustrated.

Here's the long read. Good luck. >> How buyers can cancel an order | eBay

In the beginning, eBay sent the sellers offer options only for items that had watchers, and they were pretty good leads. Then about 6 months ago, they widened the net included people who had merely looked at the item once or twice. That's where sellers get snagged while doing research.
On the offers list for sellers, they do indicate whether there are watchers or views. I only send offers to watchers, although some viewers will get them if there are both.
eBay did this out of greediness and no one likes it.

As a mistake you should buy it and sell it back on eBay.
We all make mistakes...you should own up to it.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I still haven't heard from the seller but I did let them know what happened. Hopefully it will just drop off or get sold to someone else.

@winterpalace25 Actually, the net has always been wider than just watchers. There used to be a list published of when it would be available, not sure if there still is. It did include looking at an item for a certain amt of time, that's not new.
I wouldn't say no one likes it, I love it as a seller. Sure, it's annoying at times, but I can send offers to more people.

You're right, "nobody" is extreme. But there have been a lot of complaints about it from sellers who momentarily think they have made a sale and buyers who get bombarded and can't stop it without shutting down notifications. I like the offers function, but don't like them sending it to casual viewers. It used to be more targeted and more effective.
