Help! I am trying to understand how this works.
I accepted an offer last night and haven't been paid. I certainly want to honor that. But with that said, the listing is still up and I received another offer.
Is this usually how it works? The listing remains until the buyer pays? And if so, how long does a buyer have to pay? I understand that people sometimes have to wait for their funds to be available and I want to do the right thing by this buyer.
I just need clarity moving forward from you all.
I also find it interesting that it asks if I want to accept the new offer or counter! Huh!? If I accepted another offer...... I am confused.
Please, any help and clarification would be so very much appreciated.

Yes, first to pay gets the item. You can accept multiple offers but only the first to pay gets it.

Until your buyer who you accepted an offer on pays it is still available for others to buy.
Offers expire in 96 hours.

@ebooksdiva I accepted their counter offer. If payment is pending, wouldn't it create a problem for me if I accepted another offer?
I'm ignorant to how this works and don't want to mess up so soon.

The first buyer who pays gets the item. Payment pending only means the buyer hasn't actually paid.

@ebooksdiva Thank you, and thank you for your patience.

Yes, you can send out many offers, and they can all be accepted, but the first buyer who pays gets the item. You can message & let the first "buyer" know, that the item is still live until it's paid for.

Others answered, but here's a little more context @mommaknows .
The process of accepted counter-offers moving to pending status on the listing's offers management page is something eBay has been rolling out.
While offers are in pending status the item is available for anybody else to purchase until the buyer pays. eBay is trying to eliminate the inconvenience to sellers when buyers lose interest after an item ends so the seller does not have to start from scratch and lose interested buyers when they relist. They're also trying to eliminate the inconvenience of having your item off the market during the 4+ day waiting period for payment.
If the buyer does not pay within a certain amount of time, the offer will expire and be removed from the pending section. If the buyer pays then it will become an official transaction on your orders page. In the meantime, any buyer can purchase at full price or make an offer.

@wastingtime101 @ebooksdiva I just couldn't get it straight in my head if it was pending how can I accept ethically another offer and if there would be repercussions to my ability to sale. It only took the patience of ebooksdiva for me to absorb the answer she so kindly repeated.
I truly appreciate your time and the clarification. I am very thankful to this forum and those of you that share your knowledge. Cheers

@mommaknows
You only have two listings that have the "best offer" feature. You require that your buyers put up a payment source in order to proceed to make an offer at all. Should you accept such an offer, it results in your buyer being auto-billed immediately, without the ability to invoice/combine items for one shipping price. This also limits the payment options a buyer can use.
You can see these requirements here:
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements
Buyer Rules:
*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.
*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.
Click submit or save.
When you are speaking about accepting a COUNTER OFFER, it is a different process. Buyers are still apparently not informed of the "acceptance" of your counter offer unless they happen to look in their "offers" folder. You cannot send a reminder or an invoice. You will have to use the "contact member" feature found on their feedback page to let the buyer know you accepted the counter offer. These items remain for sale until somebody pays for them. You cannot file the Unpaid Item Cancellation for these accepted counter offers either.
