Hello !
I just sold an item yesterday. I promoted my item and added 100% I didn't have much idea of how much this would cost me but I thought it would be like 30usd or something . I sold it for 120+60usd shipping. Total of 180usd. For some reason there's only 152 on hold and it says I am 185 negative USD. Does that mean I will have to pay 185 for the ad fees? Still needing to pay 32 USD? When I saw I almost had an heart attack, I can't believe it. Please tell me I am wrong. 😫😫😫😫😫

@mario_croft wrote:the customer support told me that if i canceled they would help me with this issue, i posted today morning and i could contact the post office to cancel the shipping. i used ebay standard because i am not from the us , so the shipping method is diferent , i dont print labels or something and there was still an option to cancel and refund the seller
Great, but you should move quickly to intercept the package. If the buyer gets the item, they will not return it. Make sure you your Post Office can stop the shipment before your cancel the order or you will just find yourself in a bigger mess.

And Im sure he will still owe for the PL...I looked this up, the PL credit is only issued if the transaction is cancelled before shipping..not for a return.

So are you saying you were able to intercept the package and to refund the buyer?

I think so too, but at least he will have his item back. Also he may get negative. Very bad experience. eBay if it can make it right, should. If not, they will lose a potential seller.

Costly lesson that I hope you are able to recover from. As a new seller you should read some of the help files available to you regarding fees, the money back guarantee, funding holds, etc. prior to listing anything else. As a new seller you are going to be a target for the scammers if you are listing high target items. Scan the postings on this forum and learn what some of the more common scams are. You may want to start out selling lower value items using BIN format with immediate payment required and avoid the OBO option. I would also suggest you stay away from PL until you see how your items sell without it.

after i refund him i can intercept the package. but i think i cant refund with the funds on hold. and thats the problem cz i cant afford the mount he paid. i am only seeling these rare stuff because i need money so , i am contacting the support to see if they can take the funds on hold and send it straight to the buyer. if not , then i will pay my for my stupid mistake

Im sorry this happened to you, hope you get it straightened out.

What steps should eBay take to "make it right"?
He did not know what he was doing in this case.

Why do you call it a "shameful situation"?

I think the OP has realized his error and is a bit ashamed of himself. 'Helpful', as I felt @mario_croft was showing humility.
ETA: Shameful = worthy of or causing shame or disgrace 😓

Pretty sure I knew the definition of the word "shameful".
Just didn't know whether or not the OP did.
But thanks anyway.

@bonjourami in my experience, Promoted Listings Standard fees are credited on returns once the refund is processed.
The situation here is a little outside of normal with the rate being 100%, so I can't say for sure exactly how eBay will handle this specific instance, but in general I've always seen PLS fees refunded on returns.
Per the fee credits help page, it looks like the only time PLS fees would not be created for a return is if the case is escalated and eBay has to step in to force the refund.

There could of course still be negative feedback and other consequences, but in theory @mario_croft should get the ad fee credited once he refunds the order, as long as eBay doesn't have to step in to decide the case.

Thank you for the info, good to know.It was a little confusing because this wasnt really a return, but the op intercepting his pkg.

You're welcome! It is a little confusing and the OP's situation is definitely outside the norm so there's no guarantee, but I think it would fall under "voluntarily initiate a refund on eBay" even if there wasn't an actual return request opened.
As long as the order is refunded without eBay needing to step in, I think it should be ok as far as the ad fee.
