Hi,
I ordered an item shipping from Mid Michigan, I am in TN. My tracking says it’s in City of Industry, CA? Meanwhile, with a bad feeling in my gut, I contact seller. No response back?
Anyone have any knowledge, does this sound like it is a drop ship situation. Makes no sense… as it appear the seller has the item in hand.
thank you 😎

City of Industry is part of the Los Angeles area.

Hold up. You are in TN. You ordered from Michigan and it's in California? Either that's a very scenic route or your seller is lying about where the item is.
Now, that doesn't mean you won't get it. It just means something is fishy and I'd wait to see where it came from before I left any feedback. I check locations when I buy and that might upset me a little bit to be lied to.
In the meantime, keep an eye on tracking, see where it's heading and make sure you know what to do if it doesn't show.

Things get incorrectly routed all the time. I had a package going from North Dakota to Indiana end up routing through Guam and Hawaii before it got there.

@moonglo17 Can you post the tracking # or look up the expanded history on the carrier's website? It would show you the origination and each stop along the way. Sometimes carriers (more so USPS) send some of our packages on crazy trips, thousands of extra miles! I just keep the buyer updated when I notice the weirdness.
You can keep track of when you're supposed to receive your item. You can then open an Item Not Received case, if you don't receive it in the time specified. I would do that if the original shipping location did not match the seller's location.
The seller may just be one of those who can't be bothered to respond.

How did you determine that "it appears the seller has the item in hand"?

There are a lot of China sellers that distribute their products from their warehouse in the City of Industry.

The seller may not be lying. I am not sure why but many times, items get rerouted like that. OP, no need to worry until the delivery date.

Was there an original acceptance "item in hand" scan by a post office? What post office was it? That should tell you where it is coming from.
Then, if indeed its first scan was California, it would seem you would be justified in leaving appropriate feedback regarding where he said it was and where it actually was.
I admit I am not a big buyer, but a regular buyer of computer ink. When there are multiple sellers selling the same thing I usually buy from a seller closer to me for the sake of a speedier delivery. The above would irritate me especially if I was running short..

Could be a drop ship situation. Could be a fulfillment situation. Could be a misrouted package. Could be something else. I wouldn't worry to much about it.
Up to you if you want to complain via feedback after you get it though.

I bought something the other day...seller listed in the Philippines..to be sent from California...address on envelope from Las Vegas ...Item made in China...had tracking. People try to get around the state tax.
Came from Amazon in Las Vegas. It was a good laugh.

No need to panic, just wait it out. It will get to you.

Since the state sales tax is charged to the BUYER, not the seller, how would all those different addresses for the SELLER allow anyone to get around the state sales tax?

First a big thank you to all for the prompt and helpful responses. I’m not green but made an amateur move. I wrongly based, thinking item was in hand by the pictures, and the fact I ONLY post item being shipped. I realize that is not how everyone rolls. I also jumped to bid and neglected to notice not much traffic looking at the item. Designer name earring brand, to good a price and i bid, actually won the auction. Another red flag… my experience is this is an “always” snipped item. Hence… my purchase. For myself🙄, I know better. In any event, if it actually arrives, if it does… the quality. I shall wait and see. Meanwhile the positive feedback is 4 people, and it’s just two names, two entries each… I’m thinking friends, family. I a huge horrible write up just this last month. About the seller jumping in with an EMAIL OFFFER to someone once they made an offer on another item. Once the buyer realized it was an offer by THIS seller, the buyer tried to cancel within 10 minutes. The seller ignored the request, waited three days to ship the item and then responded with a reply “ it was to late to cancel”, this happened this month. I know ebay took care of the customer, and policy will take care of this if need be. It is however, very irritating to deal with especially when I know myself and so many others try and be as professional as possible. I have squawked, y’all made me feel better , even though I’m pretty sure I’m being jerked around. I’ll wait the time frame and just deal. Then I’ll follow procedure. Thanks again Ebay community! 😎 cool people!
