Hi,

Good morning. I posted bed bath and beyond coupon (20% off for entire purchase) on Wednesday. One customer sent me three messages as below:

Is this your only Bed Bath and Beyond coupon you have like this one?

Ok how do you get these type of coupons?

Did you receive this coupon in the mail from Bed Bath and Beyond?

I answered to the first one and told the customer that it is the only one coupon that I have.

For the second question that I don't want to answer, so I just replied: thank you for watching.

For the Third question, I haven't answered yet and I don't think I would like to answer.

I think this customer is too much. I tried to be nice. Do I need to answer the third question? How do I answer that I don't want to let the customer know how I got the coupon?

Thank you for your time.

If someone is implying I'm trying to "scam" I wouldn't want them buying from me

Been there, had that exchange.  I get folks all the time asking me 100 questions to verify my description or photos.  I can just as easily make up answers for those - I don't understand why, in such a favorable environment, buyers go to such lengths.

That's insane.  And correlation doesn't equal causation (messages to feedback) but I'm sure that site knows that - but they're a massive control freak.

Maybe she doesn't know she can google coupons.
If it is that easy, then how can people sell coupons on eBay and make money?

That has been my question since I started seeing them being sold on ebay.

She sold a Macy's coupon.  They are in every Sunday newspaper, and on line.

Same with her other coupons.  I am bombarded with Bed Bath and Beyond coupons.  And if you google it, there are pages of them.  All you need is a printer.

There are of course the specialized coupons you can get - likes Barnes and Noble is one example.  But many of them are non transferable.  So if you sell it, a buyer cannot use it.  Thee they look up your name as you have to be a member to use it.

I think this person knew exactly where she got that BB&B coupon.  In the mail.  Probably so she could complain to ebay.  Because as Chrys said, they are not supposed to be transferred or sold.  Says is right on each coupon.

Because buyers aren’t using their own cash. They use eBay bucks and other rewards and incentives. Coupons sell pretty well here. Sellers make money off them. My guess is that the buyer is doing research so she can start selling coupons hereself!

Jen,

You would have to be living under a rock, imo, not to be able to figure out that the Macy's coupon was cut out of a Macy's advertisement.  And the BBB one is sent ad nauseum in the mail.

Google store coupons.  There are pages and pages of where to find them and how to sell them.

I used to get reward coupons that can't be had on "Google".  Used to sell them.  Used to flip them.  People would list them for half their value.  Easiest $20 you could ever make.

I know that. But not everyone does. And there are also coupons not available on the internet, the type that are handed out individually yet some sellers manage to get their hands on large quantities. So it wouldn’t surprise me if the buyer was simply doing research.

Yes that’s exactly what I was talking about. And there was a time when BB&B coupons weren’t easily available on the internet, you had to hope you got one in the mail. Those probably sold pretty well back then.

Can't you be a good person and just tell them where you got it?   They probably just want to get them for free.   What's the big deal???  They can also call BB&B to find out.   Plus, I thought someone said they are no longer taking the coupons?  Seems like a little too much drama over a coupon that we all get coming out of our ears.

Then why ask this seller, as it was obvious where she got her coupons.

As to the ones that are handed out individually, you cannot transfer them.  Like I said, Barnes and Noble is an example.  Those types of coupons are based on that person becoming a member and then will get coupons.

I had one and my son could not use it.  It has to be the original member.

And there is a reason why coupons say not for sale, not transferrable.  But I guess once again some will just do as they please.  But I wonder how many buyers get them and cannot use them.

As to those who grab loads of coupons so that they are not available to people who actually shop there, well my opinion of them is not very much.

actually, looks like it's against ebay policy to sell them - and by posting your question on here you have "outed yourself" to violating ebay policy.   Don't be surprised if someont reported the listing.   You might want to just take it down yourself before they do..............

Not allowedNot allowed

  • Coupons for "free" products: You can't sell coupons for "free" products. This restriction includes coupons for free items, or coupons where the coupon holder buys a quantity of items at one price, and receives additional items for free
  • Electronic "scanned" coupons: All coupons sold through eBay must be physical coupons printed on paper, not coupons that can be sent electronically to the buyer to be printed. Also, to reduce the potential for coupon fraud, don't include unaltered scans of coupons in their listings that could be copied, printed, and redeemed in stores
Note: The sale of scanned or photocopied coupons may violate federal copyright laws, and sellers of unlawful items like these could face prosecution under federal law. We don't allow the sale of these kinds of coupons
  • Coupons for recalled items: Coupons for items that have been recalled can't be listed on eBay
  • Recalled coupons: Coupons that have been recalled can't be listed on eBay
  • Coupon Inserts: Coupon inserts containing numerous coupons commonly found in Sunday papers or delivered with your mail or to your door
