I am an eBay seller and I sold a $2000 Canon camera (5D Mark IV) on 07/28/2019 and it was delivered on 08/02/2019. On 08/30/2019, a dispute case was opened on PayPal by the buyer and claiming the item is not described.
PayPal just contacted me and told me they will ask the buyer to ship the item back to me and then they will issue a full refund to the buyer. Is it how it is supposed to work? I mean the item was delivered a month ago and buyer didn't contact me at all or request a return on eBay. It has been more than a month since the item was delivered, is it still valid for a return?
I don't think the camera had any issues. I tested the camera before shipping so I am confident about that. Even if it had, why the buyer didn't do anything until a month later? It doesn't make any sense. What if the buyer damaged the camera while using it in the past month and is going to return it to me? Anything I can do to protect me as a seller? Can eBay do anything to help me? also eBay charged me $120 (6%) commission fee. Would eBay refund me that since the return is being processed through PayPal, not eBay?
I am so worried right now. Please help me! Thanks in advance!

Paypal offers eBay buyers a full 180 days of Not As Described protection.

Buyers have up to 180 days from purchase to open a claim through PayPal.

Pay Pal gives the buyer 180 days to file a claim.
Since the claim was opened on Pay Pal, Ebay won't be any help with the return.
I'm not sure about the fee's, all you can do is call and see.
About the only good thing with them filing with Pay Pal, is buyer will pay return shipping.

Sorry no, this is a PayPal case, so any FVF you were billed/already paid will not be credited, hence that $120 is gone.
And because you didn't take action and dawdled until this dispute was escalated to a PayPal claim, @huqingfeng2001, you lose PayPal fees, and will pay PayPal the full $2015 out of pocket -- not $2015 less your PayPal fees -- so that $60 as well is gone.

@huqingfeng2001 accept the return and wait. They may decide not to return it

The OP can get their FVFs back. It will require a phone call to Ebay after the refund happens [not before], but Ebay will be able to see the refund that was issued and they will give the OP a refund of the FVFs.
The PP fees are NOT gone. When the refund is processed in PP, they will refund the fees they charged to the OP less the 30 cent transaction fee that PP always keeps.

I too didn't read the policy, @huqingfeng2001. But as stated, PayPal has taken over, and now PayPal, not you. will refund your buyer, as you've lost the case.
If you lose a claim under PayPal’s Purchase Protection program

Yes, definitely, @huqingfeng2001. eBay will take care of you; when you call, just mention this:
We don't issue a final value fee credit if any of the following happens:

If you lose a claim under PayPal’s Purchase Protection program
- You must forfeit the full purchase price of the item plus the original shipping cost. In some cases you may not receive the item back.
- You will not receive a refund of the PayPal fees that you paid in connection with the sale.
Well I certainly missed something. Where did the OP say that they refused the return request and PP is now forcing it?
It is important to remember that PP does not have a return policy like Ebay does. If the seller said they didn't want the buyer to return the item and PP decided the buyer should get their money back, then it is likely PP would have just refunded the buyer and no return would happen.

- You refund the buyer outside of eBay – using PayPal's Send Money, for instance
- You or the buyer asked us to step in, and the case was decided in the buyer's favor
The policy you quote above doesn't apply since the money would not be refunded by "PP send money", but directly from them original transaction in PP. And the second point has nothing to do with a PP claim.
YES the OP can get them FVFs back from Ebay if they call and the PP claim is complete.

Buyers are responsible to pay for return shipping on PayPal. They can sign up for program that will pay the return shipping up to $30, but most buyers don't know they can sign up for that.
PayPal will only give the buyer so long to return the item before they closed the case in the seller's favor.

You are absolutely correct, but I didn't say anything about the return shipping. What you highlighted was the original payment which is the product plus original shipping. They will refund that.

Thanks for your reply and help. One more question, if the buyer turned a damaged item or an empty box, is there anything I can do or I would have to accept it? I would take the loss if it is small amout of money, but it's $2000...
