A buyer asks for a refund on an item that i did not sell them...

Hello all,

I have a buyer who receives their items that I sold them and tells me that one of the items is broken. I explain that I will fully refund her but first I need to see photos. They upload 3 photos that are not the item I sold them. They look similar but anyone can see that they are two different items. When I explain that maybe they sent me the wrong photos because these are of a different item, the buyer never responds to me. I send several polite messages with no response. Finally, I decide to call Ebay and upload the photos since the buyer is asking for a refund of one of the items.

The Ebay person on the phone explains that she can tell that the items are two very differnt items. She then tells me that there is nothing I can do at this point. I have to wait and see if they open a case. If they open a case, she instructed me to call back, to explain to the person assigned to the case, what happened and to have them look at the uploaded photos comparred to the listing photos. The buyer is quite obviously lying and trying to steal money. To back up a bit, the buyer asked me right after winning the auction but before paying, to lower the shipping price. I guess in hindsight that was a sign that something was wrong with this buyer and I should have canceled the sale and relisted. What do you think will happen? I am waiting, today is the last day for a refund/return which I am not going to give since its so obvious.

For additional perspective, I frequent the Buying Board as well, and provide the same perspective on the Buying Board by frequenting correcting the SCAMMING SELLER threads that pop up over there.  Just as not every buyer is a scammer, not every seller is a scammer, either.  It might be something as simple as the seller has printed a label but the package has not been scanned yet, so the buyer thinks the seller is a scammer, when we all know that is not necessarily the case.

Regarding this:  But there certainly may be hell to pay by the buyer!  An issue that was clearly NOT the buyer's fault, a legitimate SNAD, with multiple failures by the seller, can lead to strings of abusive, hostile, accusatory, insulting, and profanity laced messages over several days, in hopes of intimidating the buyer into abandoning the return.

Please know that that scenario can occur also in the case of a seller who accept returns.  They may fly the returns banner for increased visibility but have no intentions of actually taking a return.  They may state this in their description, by saying they only take returns if they have misrepresented an item.  Then you find out they never misrepresent an item (in their mind, no matter what the facts may be).  And returns are to be taken for any reason if you choose that option when you list.

Granted, the Boards are where those with problems come to vent and for advice~but there is no reason to disparage either seller or buyer with the immediate assumption they are lying or are scammers as that may not be the case.

That's all.

Many thanks for the two responses.  My response to your post was the other side of the coin which I felt was appropriate to mention because of the board.  Had the same response been given the other way around on the buying board, I would have responded the same way in accordance with that board.

There are good sellers and bad sellers, good buyers and bad buyers, it is what it is, most likely will always be that way, constant reminders not necessary, it has been said over and over and I think both sides are well aware of it.

If a seller comes to the board and thinks he has been scammed, and you do not agree, well you can say “no, I don’t think your buyer is scamming you because..........., better that than going on a rant, and it would be considered to be helpful. The very same thing I would suggest for the buying board.

That’s all.

I will say that through this incident I have been taught how to steal, scam, lie and cheat on Ebay. Basically you buy an item i.e. $1000 dollar baseball card etc~ Once I recieve it I then contact seller and advise them that it is damaged etc~ Start a Refund/Return~ Send them a different item i.e. lesser valued card of same player~ get my refund and keep $1000 card.

This is basically is what is happening to me.

They are called scammers and they are trying to buy what they want and get money back too.  Did you even block that person?

Good Moms let you lick the Beaters.

Great Moms turn them off first.

I will be blocking them as soon as this mess is over.

They had 128 Positive feedback score. I didnt read any Feedback responses but will for now on especially since Ebay as taken the ability of Sellers to give a Negative Feedback score to buyers. I guess some sellers are clicking the Positive Feedback and proceeding to give a negative narative or summary. I believe I will make a post with this persons User Name to let all of the Ebay community know that they are scammers. I have spoken to others and they have had similar situations happen to them with this same person.

Well this takes the cake.

Ebay gave the buyer (scammer) a full refund after they told Ebay that the contents were too hazardous to ship.  A full refund without even shipping an item back to me. Wow. Unbelievable.

I am currently going through the same thing with a buyer.  Sent brand new item and she sent back pictures of a defective one.  And first correspondence questioned the shipping cost.  I ending sending the item Priority at an additional cost to me so it would be insured thinking she might claim something.  (Sound like we may be dealing with the same buyer in Texas).  I  asked for additional photos of entire item, not just the close-ups of defects, as it was evident that the shape of the item was different.

She then added "Sob Story" elements to her emails, first lots of health issues with elderly parent which would prevent her from immediately sending photos and I would have to wait until later in the evening.  old her that was fine, and then heard nothing for over a week.  When she did send additional photos (of damage only) she upped the "Sob Story " quotient with that "when removing my item for the shipping box I cut herself!".  (It was foam wrapped and then shrink wrapped) .   I have a 100% positive feedback rating and am worried this customer will ruin that.

She paid $8 for the item and $19.00 shipping and wants the shipping carage refunded.

I'm in a quandry as to what to do next.

EBAY charged YOU for the refund OR they paid it?

How can something be "too Hazardous to ship" when that is how they got the item in the first place?

This defies logic.
