A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

I am just selling some stuff casually from my home, but my first two purchases have not been treating me too well. My first customer refused to pay the invoice after five days of waiting, so I canceled my order. The second had an address that turned out to be a front for a scam, so I canceled that too.

However, when I view my selling overview, it claims that I have received funds from both of the payments. My Paypal also tells me that my funds from eBay have been placed on a temporary hold.

Are the funds displayed in my selling overview just a visual, or did I unintentionally scam someone?

Apologies if this is a really rudimentary question. I am pretty new to this.

A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

Thank you for your advice! I think I understand the situation now. The top Quora comment in this post was very helpful.

https://www.quora.com/What-happens-if-you-accept-the-buyer%E2%80%99s-offer-on-eBay-Do-you-get-paid-i...

"The seller has to wait until the buyer pays if the seller accepts an eBay offer. The immediate payment option cannot affect this, as the buyer must still initiate and confirm the PayPal transaction after the offer is accepted. Unfortunately, all too often eBay ‘buyers’ make offers without fully understanding the procedure."

From my understanding, I received the "immediate payment", but both of my buyers didn't follow through and confirm their PayPal Transactions. Looks like the case is closed. Thank you for your concern. I will watch out there.

A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

You are enrolled in Managed Payments so you should not have anything going to Paypal?

How did you "cancel" the orders?

A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

@jawa990246

When you cancelled the orders did you do so because of "nonpayment" and then "problem with address"?

Did you refund the second one?

Are you in managed payments?

If your first buyer didn't pay, then I don't see how you have funds for that one.

If your second buyer paid, but you cancelled... that buyer will be refunded.

Don't fret... you can't screw a buyer here. Good luck.

A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

Did you cancel the first order or did you open an Unpaid Item Dispute?

How was the second order a 'front for a scam'?  Was it a forwarding service which is a common legal and safe way to sell overseas?

If you choose the wrong reason to cancel an order, you can end up penalized with a Defect. These can lead to higher fees, more restrictions on the number and value of your listings, or even the closing of your selling account.

While many sellers here are just selling off the odd unwanted item or using eBay as a hobby, we are all expected to act professionally towards our buyers. That includes the deadbeats and oddballs.

A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

When you cancel a transaction the buyer did not specifically ask you to cancel you earn a defect.

Aside from that, zero feedback sellers who list expensive items attract scammers.  $400 Yeezy sneakers that are not authenticated by eBay definitely attract scammers.

A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

 My Paypal also tells me that my funds from eBay have been placed on a temporary hold.

@jawa990246

As suggested, you are in ebay's managed payments.  You no longer get funds into your PayPal account.  If you got a notice that there were funds in there on hold,  was it via a message to your email account?  If so, it was likely fake.  Sounds like you may have been dealing with a "text me" scammer.  Do you know what that is?   Does the phrase "kindly text me at xxxxxxxx to arrange payment or ask questions, yada yada."  These and the "change the address" scammers work this site 24/7, and a new low feedback ID is a prime target.

If the shoes were actually SOLD (like someone actually paid through eBay check out)  they would be going to the eBay authenticator, not shipped directly to the buyer.  You can find that information in the "seller hub".

When someone does not pay at all, you can "cancel the sale" after 5 days for non-payment.  This procedure replaces the old "unpaid item dispute".

When you go cancelling a sale without the proper reason (i.e. problem with buyers address, buyer requested, etc), you get a serious defect on your account.  Get a few more and you won't be a seller here for long.

A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

Yeah, I don't have any deposit in my Paypal, just a notice in my notifications that came from eBay.

When I sold the goods and was waiting for a response to my invoice, there was an option for me to cancel the transaction under a few conditions. For the first buyer, the user did not pay me within 5 days, so I canceled the transaction and relisted. The buyer ghosted me, so I don't know what happened on his end.

For the second one, I accepted the offer, but then canceled the order immediately under "problem with address", since I noticed that the buyer's address ended up being a front for a scam on Google Maps.

A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

Yes, I canceled the orders for the reasons you stated above. I didn't refund anything yet, because both buyers never responded to the invoice that I sent them after I accepted their offers. From my understanding, that means that they did not pay me right? Yet, when I check my selling overview, I have more than $800 for both of the times that my listing was sold. I'm a little concerned about that.

A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

When I checked my sold items, eBay claimed that the buyer has yet to respond to the invoice I sent them after I accepted their offer. Under "awaiting payment", it claimed that I could cancel and relist if the buyer had not paid within 5 days. I don't think I put up an unpaid item dispute, rather that I just simply canceled and relisted.

I believe that the second seller was a scam because on google maps the buyer's address had a ton of 1-star reviews from sellers that warned of a scammer group.

A Small Question Regarding Cancelled Orders

I don't believe I got scammed, and I haven't really "sold" the shoes either which is a relief.

None of the purchasers actually bought the shoes through checkout but rather sent me offers which I thought was odd. The first buyer just straight up ghosted me for 5 days so I canceled the order. The second guy had a super sketchy address with warnings from sellers about scammers on google, so I think I dodged a bullet there. Hopefully, that is a good enough reason to cancel the order. I don't want to get on eBay's bad side.

@jawa990246

Were you actually paid for the second order?   or was it a repeat of the first drama with a different "buyer" ID, just getting an email notice you were paid?

For the shoes you are selling, they would be going to the eBay authenticator "SNEAKER CON" or something like that.  They have a couple of different locations, and I believe the main one for the east coast is in New York state.

Just a bit of advice.  Do not communicate off site with anyone that wants you to text them.  They are not buyers they are crooks, even if you don't find out until after you accept the offer.   You will never see any money from these people.  The closest you will get is a good looking but phony email saying you are paid.

Read up on the program here:

https://pages.ebay.com/authenticity-guarantee-sneakers-seller/

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE learn how not to fall for the scams that come through the ebay message system by reading here, and learn to use the Seller Hub to find out if you are paid, and when it is ok to ship.

As a new seller you are a prime scam magnet.

Good luck to you.

If you didn't sell either pair of shoes then you have no money and there is nothing to refund if neither buyer paid.
