Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

respect for the President is certainly lacking.....  I'm not one of his supporters, but if it's ok to personally attack him/call names.....what does that say about the "community"???  Besides which, most of the comments have nothing to do with tariffs or Ebay which is what the thread is supposed to be about..........

I agree he does.........but how does that justify us doing it, if we think he's wrong to do it?

So, the expectation is that people on a message board should behave better, and have better manners than the leader of the free world? I don't think anyone here is the problem.

Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

I'll try to connect tariffs to selling. I first brought up the tariff topic months ago, and find my basic view remains unchanged: As a reseller of used stuff I source domestically (heck, most of it within 75 miles of my home), and with a history of very few international sales, I am not dealing with a direct impact.

However, one consequence of the tariffs , recognized by everyone from the President on down, will be: higher prices.

This will likely mean:

1. More competition when sourcing (more people buying for resale, or just buying used to save money)

2. More people getting into reselling as a side gig or full time gig. So, more competition when selling.

3. Since I do not sell necessities, Increasing my prices is not in the cards. More likely, reducing my prices.

4. My costs might go up, for things like a new phone or PC or printer, even packaging materials.

And the main concern:

4. Buyers who had been buying my kind of stuff will likely pull back because of concerns about the increased prices of imports , and concerns about the impact on their investments.

I think it will take some time before I can really tell whether people are pulling back in a big way or a small way. Fortunately, we are a nation of consumers. As we saw during the previous administration's inflationary period, inflation remained stubborn in part because, despite much complaining, people kept buying, which is generally the opposite of what happens when prices go to painful heights: people cut back, and prices drop due to decreased demand. So, will this continue? People will complain, but will continue their discretionary spending? Hard to say.

I have plans made months ago and will continue with them for now, and will wait and see where it gets me.

I am grateful that I do not source from non US sources, as that would complicate things greatly.

And his newest one, "panican"

"According to Trump, a "panican" is a "new party based on weak and stupid people" who are panicking because of his implementation of tariffs. The term is not recognized in standard dictionaries and appears to be a neologism coined by Trump."

"MTG embraced the term, calling "panicans" losers."

It is a consumption tax - seems Canada has both https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value-added_tax                                                                                                              https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_Canada

Been to Canada may times Eastern and Western  the VAT was adopted in1991 business & pleasure  Windsor  was just a bridge or tunnel away.

In 1991, Canada implemented a 7 percent national value-added tax (VAT) to replace a tax on sales by manufacturers. The VAT was introduced by the Conservative party, which had concerns about industry competitiveness and the country's fiscal situation,

Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

I would agree, there's plenty of doom and gloomers here that hate Trump regardless how great he is.  $7 trillion usd in new investments speaks volumes.  No disrespect but the group singing a sad song now, were singing a sad song since Trump decided to run; and, they realized how pro-American he was/is.

It's called common sense, which is a hallmark of the conservative movement.  Call it what you want, but I'm betting you'll change your tune once the prosperity trickles down to you.  $7 trillion usd in new investments is nothing short of amazing, either way you cut it.

Until wages go up, you can have all the investments in the world and only the few people at the tippy top will benefit.
