Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

Bingo! And that is exactly why it is a good idea.  The only thing Chinese goods have on goods from virtually any other place in the world is their price.  Once that price is no longer attractive, there is no incentive to continue supporting their ever expanding GDP.   I'm not only good with that, I'm downright ecstatic.

If you want to pay top dollar for the lowest quality goods in the world, be my guest.  It's still a free country and you can blow your cash however you like.

That wasn't even a reply to you. 🤣  What name did I call you?

You were not rude and pointed out a different opinion that they just can't handle. They actually think the sky is falling after the best stock market day in history. 😂 (with some caveats of course)

It really is pointless to have a conversation with some that just are filled with talking points and hate. So many of them are rooting for America to fail because they are so emotionally invested in bad man trump.

Eventually some of them will catch up but unfortunately i do believe there will be about 10% that will be lost forever. TDS

Kudos to @tarotfindsandmore for keeping it civilized. 👍

Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

I heard yesterday that an iPhone made in the USA would cost thousands and thousands of dollars. $30k to be exact. Not sure if that is an exaggeration but regardless, they would cost a lot more than what Americans pay now.

You should notice those posts are edited and rude insults were removed. There were several less than civil unnecessary remarks made.

Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

Thank you, I'm about to throw in the towel on this one.  The reality is that even the most vehement TDS sufferer will benefit from the things that are happening right now, which is exactly what I would like to see happen for everyone.  I look forward to the day when we can pull a Kamala and say "I told you so".

In the meantime, I had and easier time explaining why vegetables were "good for them" when my kids were toddlers so I will just let them throw their tantrums and go hunt for bargains!

Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

The ONLY way its NOT a tax, is if that money for the "tariff" would go ANYWHERE other than to a government entity. A tax is a tax is a tax. Please stop being obtuse. Trumpie talking points don't make your defense more "biggly".

Gotta love the way the mods leave this, but felt it necessary to edit my post.  No bias here folks, none at all LOL!

No, I don't agree with anything you've said. Let's be clear about that.  I absolutely do not agree.  A tariff is a duty, which is a sort of a "tax" levied on the OTHER guy, not you. I'm getting very tired of all of this nonsense about higher taxes for Americans because that is precisely the opposite of what a tariff is.

The consumer in the OTHER country pays the tax, not you, not me. When our goods are tariffed, their consumers pay for it.

Honestly, I didn't even notice you'd jumped into this thread so don't accuse me of calling you names.  It's dishonest.

Anything further I may add to this exchange is not for you.  I am not talking to you and I am not interested in any further exchanges with you so you can rest easy.  I haven't insulted you or called you names, I have no interest in you at all.

Completely and patently FALSE. The "other" country does NOT pay the "levied tariff" when their products hit this shore. The IMPORTER, who is in most cases, a US business, PAYS THE "Tariff". You have no clue how things work, yet you want to argue how others do not understand or they are spreading false rumors.

I don't care if you misunderstand or are just being argumentative. You are completely misrepresenting who pays "tariffs" and who in the end (consumers) pay them. It seems like you are the only one in these thread regarding tariffs who is wrong or spreading falsehoods.

I don't care how much you dislike China and it's system. Like it or not, very few things are not either made completely in China, or the components are not made there and assembled somewhere else. 100% tariffs will leave few things without large increases in prices, while Americans income remain stagnant and shrinking.

Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

Yup.  And it's also just like any time postal rates go up, we sellers don't absorb the extra cost (well not any of us with two or more brain cells to rub together) -we pass the increase onto buyers.  -They're the ones who want stuff shipped to them, they have to pay more if the carrier charges more.

Likewise, if the American government charges a country a (tariff, tax, fee, fine, bribe, DOES IT REALLY MATTER WHAT WORD IS USED?) for the privilege of allowing their products to be sold to us Americans, -we're like eBay buyers in this scenario.  We have to pay the "________" in the form of higher prices on the shelves.

Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

Nevermind the tariffs.

Even if they are a terrific thing (which most experts agree they are not).

I can't get support this administration.

Character matters to me.

I want my President to be someone of high character, not a convicted felon.

How do Trump supporters  ignore all of the absolutely stupid things he's said and done?

I'll never understand it.

I'm going to illustrate this point...

Canada levied a 25% on US imports. Uncle Ben's Rice seems to be a US import (even though it has Canada packaging). It was 2.79 for me to buy it, now it's 3.50. The result of the tariff levied on US GOODS has cause me, a person living in Canada, to pay more for my rice. I'm the one paying the tariff because the grocery store paid a tariff to import it and passed the cost on to me. That's how tariffs work.

It's one thing to argue who pays them... I just wanted to illustrate your point that the end consumer is the one who ends up paying the cost of the tariff that was "levied on the other country's products".

C.

Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

I'll never understand it either.  However this is a very tariff-specific thread that is still in the Sellers forum so to keep it there we should stick to that subject.

That said, our President is not even capable of talking about tariffs in ways that make sense, so that is bound to spook millions of people, and that alone can cause shockwaves in markets ... which is bound to affect us (say it with me) SELLERS.

Re: 90 Day Pause on Tariffs....

You'll get no argument from me.  ALL costs are passed onto the consumer, always. Doesn't matter what the costs ends up being, I think most reasonable people understand that.
