34 hours delay in "indexing"

This is important for anyone who uses auction style listings - Called eBay this morning as an item listed in "auction" style still was not showing in search despite showing as active in My eBay.  Was told it was in "indexing" and the delay time would be 34 hours (I was actually given the delayed time it would start).   The 7 day auction will lose 34 hours of view time.  I verified this with the eBay rep.   Would not make a difference with BIN but when listing auction style, this DOES make a difference.  The countdown clock starts at time auction is made, not when eBay actually starts it when it comes out of "indexing".  Asked eBay to put a warning for eBay sellers on the create listing page if using an auction style so sellers would be informed of the start delay and shorting period of search time.  34 hours is ridiculous!  Everyone should reconsider before using auction style listings.

Sounds like you got a phone advisor who was just telling you anything they could think of to get you off the phone.  That's absolutely false information.  We've had watchers and bids appear on items within hours of setting up an auction (we don't use scheduled start times, so they start immediately after we write them up and list them).  No way for that to happen if they don't show up in searches, when it's not a repeat buyer (and they've made that easy for us to identify now).

You have no listings shown for this id you used to post with. Try again; it didn't take.

The phone reps have a terrible reputation for getting you off the phone as soon as possible even if that means giving you the advice you want to hear instead of the advice you need to have.

Actually this IS happening and I have been documenting it for two consecutive months. None of them know what they are talking about and they are the self proclaimed arbiters of your store, and your inventory. They are cheating their customers, but what else is new?

If you revise the listing, it can reset the 24 hr time to index.........can't see the listing to see if that's what happened.......but we often have people complaining that their listings don't show and revising is the reason.

I was actually given the delayed time it would start

They lied to you. They know it will index long before 34 hours. They just told you it would take that long so you would not call again.

I think most sellers will continue evaluate the performance of their auction listings based on the performance of their auction listings, not on what one seller was told about the indexing time.
