30% of selling price went to ebay time to quit selling?

I just sold an Ohio State Jersey for $26.99 and $7.00 shipping and ebay got $4.86 not counting the shipping cost which brings it to $10.84 I get $23.15 I am not a store or big company I am a hard working man and sell things here to help my income why do all us little guys have to pay fees and taxes for these sales? Ebay is getting more money hungry every day. If the raising fees continues who will sell on ebay? Certainly not the little people as Ebay keeps pushing to get rid of normal sellers they only want big companies so they can get bigger payouts for themselves and don't care about all us little sellers that made Ebay what it is today. GREED is the root of all evil and Ebay big wigs is showing their true colors. I for one will not be selling much if anything else on ebay. Looking into other venues to list and sell my collectibles.

You are wrong. Ebay did not charge you 30%. You sold an item for $33.99 (that's what the buyer paid). Ebay got $4.86. Your charge comes to 14.298%

Fees are for person buying item with shipping fee. You are being charged a little extra with the shipping fee built in with the item.....I do free shipping...Increase the item for buying it with free shipping.

Can you even ship a Jersey for $7?

14.4% is not a bad fvf percentage.  We trend a little lower with a store/trs+ but not much.

It had to be similar with e-bay + paypal.

Re: 30% of selling price went to ebay time to quit selling?

Doesn't eBay have option to let you pay the monthly fee instead of taking the final fee?

Isn't the final fee there for people who lists them for free?

If you don't like the final fee, I think you should definitely explore some other options.

Most sellers probably stick to this, because it's risk-free to start up. You just pay for what you've sold.

Though I kinda get it, because you probably see the buyers paying like $38 and your only getting $23, making you wonder where's all the money going off to. lol.

I agree! No disrespect to the OP.  I say this all the time but how can so many "experienced"sellers come here without a clue on how ebay works?  It's amazing!

Figure out your cost on the item.

Calculate your fees correctly.

How much profit do you want to make?

Price your item accordingly.

Lol I tried logging to FB after not logging in for 5 years and they asked me to submit govt ID or SSN to verify.. and that's like a month after the news saying millions of FB user's data got compromised worldwide. So never bothered doing it.

But thanks for the good info though. always curious to see how their marketplace runs. I hear all kinds of stories.

Ok, so you think ebay should make less money....and you should make more on a transaction...........does that make you greedy?

I think what this seller is suggesting

Ebay doesn't need the money as much, & can afford to take less.

Re: 30% of selling price went to ebay time to quit selling?

I started with them last year slowly and once I hit $600 in sales they held my funds until I submitted my info and it was verified.  I did hear about that data leak but never was contacted regarding it and with the new tax changes I'd assume they require new sellers to submit that info.  You don't have to for local to my knowledge as that's all free but if your using marketplace shipping you do and I'd presume in your situation they just wanted to verify you weren't an old account that had been recently hacked.  I also find shipping to be much easier as you just give an weight estimate with the highest being 5-10lbs and buyers pay a set price of your carriers choice.  Size is pretty irrelevant as long as it doesn't exceed a pretty hefty limitation, it's fine.  I can't attest to returns bc I haven't had any but I have it set to no returns, one sale had an unpredictable issue with a netbook so I just refunded in full and let her keep it.  I've been contacted by a few who suggested they wanted remorse returns because it doesn't fit or what not but I just say something like "you purchased it of your own free will and never messaged asking any questions which you could of done so at anytime.  I know my price was the best out there so instead of holding sellers responsible for user error and wanting the little guys to pay fees and shipping twice, why not sell it local".  They all buggered off.

I did get scammed buying once on there and there's was no return options, I did a PayPal charge back.  Doesn't seem to have the usual scammers who know exactly how to abuse you , I'm sure they are there though.  On here I always list free shipping so between buyers on FB being more apt to paying the shipping charges and the far lower fees, it's much easier to absorb a loss.

You sold an item for $26.99 and kept $23.15 of it - which mean you kept 86% and eBay got 14%. .

I am always baffled when sellers seem to count the the shipping cost paid by the buyer as money that the eBay "took" from the seller.

Re: 30% of selling price went to ebay time to quit selling?

no it makes me lose money I buy the things I sell and for them to get paid for shipping is wrong. I understand this action for big companies that sell thousands of items a week not the 1 or 2 things I sell if that. I paid tax for these when I bought them so why do I have to pay again when I sell them? GREED you must be one of them with your way of thinking.

Re: 30% of selling price went to ebay time to quit selling?

you don't get it they charge you a fee for the shipping cost and I get nothing from the shipping cost. They need to stop charging sellers for the shipping cost when the seller makes no money from shipping charges why should Ebay?
