Lip service.  I suspect it was some kind of mandate from On High as the mods here always are willing to answer questions.  7 hours?!

Most of the answers were about as vague as the update, until will drilled down.  That makes me wonder if they just make stuff up to silence the crowd.  Why not put details in the update to begin with?  I guess that allows more leeway to enforce things if it isn't in writing anywhere --- remember the invisible rules a rep mentioned to us before?

The details are in the UA which you need a lawyer to translate. That's how they can be vague in the "updates".

It would be nice if they did as other companies did and actually flagged what had been changed in the UA without expecting you to wade through pages of legalese.

The difference is that the other companies are not trying to pull the wool over your eyes as to what they are really doing while Ebay does not ever want any Seller to truly understand what is happening unless you happen to understand legalese and are willing to spend the time dissecting what they are actually changing.  I remember when Ebay actually did make sure that everybody was made aware of what was changing by listing those things separately.  But that was before they were nothing but attorneys trying to squeeze every ounce of money they could out of all of their users because they had destroyed what they had.  Now they have to try and hide what is happening and surprise Sellers when they get their bills or some other change that they buried deep in the minutiae of User Agreement.

2020 Spring Seller Update Community Discussions LOCKED AFTER ONLY 7 HOURS

I've been putting off writing a post to this, but it's just really bugging me and I'm going to go for it!

I have been in business for myself for over 40 years. I've also worked with, and for, manufacturing and retail businesses and historical societies.  I can honestly say I have never been so insulted and shocked as with what happened last night here with the seller updates.  I have never seen any business basically throw a tantrum and shut off the lights like that.  This is unprofessional, immature, disrespectful behavior!!!   Where did you folks go to business school??

Things seem to have gotten way off track with ebay and maybe this will help:

#1 - ebay, I am your customer. ALL sellers are YOUR customers. You treat your customers like dirt.

#2 - ebay, WE, the sellers hold the inventory.  We're the ones invested in products, not you. The buyers are OUR customers.

#3 - ebay, We pay you to supply a safe and smooth running online presence.  It's not your job to micro-manage my business.  I can manage my business just fine, thank you. You aren't keeping up your end of this monthly deal we have with you and that's what you need to be working on. Your customers are paying you to do your job.

#4 - ebay, your current employee base is failing you.  If they can't fix it, find someone who can!

#5 - ebay, listen to your customers! - Your long-time experienced sellers who built this site with their listings.

#6 - ebay, you have deserted your small American based sellers.  The site is over-flooded with low quality junk that ultimately ends up in our landfills. You've thrown out the ebay rules book when it comes to them.

I've been an ebay seller for over 20 years, under 2 different ID's - one at a time. I'm just a little guy, always have been, always will be. I've weathered dipping economies, election years, etc, but this is the first time I've seen seller sabotage from the inside.  Yes, you may be the "new generation" management, but you've made a HUGE mistake in the direction of ebay.  Suck it up and admit the mistakes! Ask US for help in getting it back on track.  None of us are sitting here with a "STUPID" sticker on our forehead.  Truth be told, most of us have been at this a lot longer than you.  Why do you treat us like WE don't know what we're doing?

Up until a little while ago YOUR customers were doing well, now they're fed up and leaving.  Isn't it your job to take care of your customers?  Your customer service should be equal to what we sellers are expected to supply to our paying customers.  All this double-standard behavior is garbage.

I do want to join the other sellers in saying your seller update was confusing and oh-so disappointing.   That up to 35 day return period is insane. Would you tie up YOUR inventory and money for 35 days?  I think not.

Ebay, you need to talk to us.  If you continue to only dictate, and never put yourself into the positions you're imposing, this once-awesome, "World's Largest 24/7 Market"  will fail.  Turn the discussion lights back on. Hiding isn't going to help and it makes things look worse than it already is.

I missed the tantrum........what was it?    Didn't they originally say the boards would only be open from/to certain hrs?

@dhbookds

If they did, I truthfully never saw anything about it.  Could you provide a link to where that was announced prior to them closing the discussion boards when it was time for them to go home for the night?  If they did I still think it is bad policy to not even allow those that work during the day to have a chance to ask a question and have it answered, but I will back off of criticizing it so much.

This is meant only as a question not anything negative on your comment as I really have not seen anything other than the announcement that the boards were closed.

Sorry if I misrepresented the event - my use of the word 'tantrum' referred only to their action of shutting of the lights (shutting down the opportunity for questions).

I don't honestly know if they stomped their feet and screamed.

I didn't see any announcement that the Q&A would be shut down after only 7 hours and TBH, I was surprised at the brief time it was open.  I get that the mods here were handling it, it can be a real juggling act and they have only so much time, but I would also think that whomever puts this together would get some more help on board to assist with answering questions and open it up over maybe two work days.  Given that clarity is often an issue with these updates, the Q&A and chat with the mods and other eBay personnel often give a lot of needed information and input. I also think it would be more efficient.

The amount of time the special update boards are open has been getting shorter & shorter with every new 'update' but this has to be a record.

Yes, they did close it down pretty quick, but they also gave us a short "heads up" before the Update went live, which is also new. I was glad to see that, and hope they continue to provide some advance notice before the Updates are actually announced.
