2 days later ... where's my stuff?

A customer purchases  an item from me late Friday night 7-3-20 at 10:52 PM.

7-4-20 = Holiday

7-5-20 = Sunday

7-6-20 = Ship

As i am packing it up Sunday night, i receive a message from the customer "When am i going to get my item?"

I'm not sure f he really just wants to know when he's going to get his item or if he's being impatient.  In 20+ years on ebay i have never messaged a seller 2 days after i purchased an item asking when i'm going to get my item.

Since they didn't say where the heck is my item, I'd say they are just looking for an idea of when it might arrive.  Just a question, nothing more.  I would however remind them it was a holiday weekend and it ships tomorrow.

It is just the mentality of some people today that want instant gratification. It's not just the mentality it's just that we are used to it. Another factor is that many shoppers have become used to Amazon FBA like shipment and do not differentiate between Ebay and Amazon shipping speeds. Amazon has many huge warehouses using robots to ship from the distribution center located nearest the customer. In many cases Amazon is doing the last mile delivery.

I find it interesting though that in some cases small sellers can have there items at the post office before Amazon has even processed the order. Sometimes small and agile can beat large and powerful.

I remember mail order as a kid and the 6 to 8 weeks or sometimes even longer delivery times. I would earn some money doing lawns or chores and order my Estes rockets via mail. I could hardly wait for those rocket kits to show up and would go out to the mailbox everyday for weeks checking. Same story for Edmund Scientific or Lafayette Electronics.

Hello Jeff, Thank you for your purchase. You purchased it Friday night 7-3-20. It will be shipped the very next business day which is Monday 7-6-20. My "guesstimate" is that you will receive it Friday or Saturday. USPS has been taking a little longer because of coronavirus. Thanks again for your purchase. I hope you had a great 4th of July weekend. Aloha, James

That sounds perfectly fine.

Besides, the exact wording of your buyer's question per your description was, "When am i going to get my item?" He did not say, "Where's my stuff?" I think you may be reading into this some hostility that wasn't there.

What did this guy buy from you? Was it a chill pill? Because if not, he should at least put some bids on them... jk.

@inhawaii - I see your posts on here all the time so I know you are simply venting. Yes, everyone has become used to overnight shipping, and no one cannot differentiate between a small eBay seller and a major company.

I had one just like this over Memorial Day weekend, when the PO was closed on that Monday. It's why I started to hate three days weekends, because it always affects my online sales. The message I received was more hostile and came the same exact day they paid, an hour later on a Saturday evening. I just sent a message that Tuesday morning confirming the shipment and I did make mention of the holiday. Otherwise I didn't mention the message they sent me. Ironically it was delivered the very next day, Wednesday, before noon.

So to them they waited from Sat to Wed but really it arrived the day after shipping, first business day to do so. Buyer never replied, never left me FB, and I never heard from them again....

I take all that communication at face value - and i am EXTRA nice in every reply.
I say "thanks for your message," and then whatever info is asked for - i reply with that info only.
- and then just tell them the estimated date - and even attach the tracking info.

And - I also like to remember, that you really JUST NEVER KNOW what a person out there might be dealing with:
- some are super brand new to ebay buying, and don't know what/where certain info is.
- they might be sick!
- they might be going thru some crisis and they don't know what's coming or going or when!
- they might be old, or have a mental issue where that they don't understand all the site info.

I imagine them having the worst day of their life! and reply accordingly... 😄

I thought about buying some of your stuff last night. Shouldn't it be here by now??

"What's wrong with people?"

sounds like an amazon buyer.

Don't get me wrong. The others could possibly be right, they just want to know but sometimes it is hard to understand a written question versus hearing it and what tome they use.

Anyways going back to the question what is wrong with people?  Amazon helped drill into peoples heads you can have your item in 2 days. Ruining it for other online sellers whether here or a b/m store  I actually brought my second package ever off of amazon on Friday July 3rd.  I got it delivered yesterday on Sunday July 5.

It wasn't exactly delivered to me but I was lucky being outside fueling up the lawn mower and I saw it happen. I saw what looked like a brand new white van come to a screeching halt down the street by this driveway that hasn't been used in years that actually goes to an old gravel pit opposite side of the rd. I already had a feeling he was looking for me so I was heading down the driveway when I see him back up and try to pull in this driveway and I can here him hitting the tree branches and he backs up again  on the road, got out and throw a package by the old post that used to have a no trespassing sign on it and leaves.  Drives right pass me and acted like he never saw me at all.  I recognized the prime shirt when he was throwing the packae on the ground so I head over there.

Sure enough it was my package.  My address is displayed out front in plain sight and he throws it out on a property with no address posted at all that isn't even a residence.  only thing I can come up with there is an address displayed across the street where they burnt the house down and it is close to my address so he just throws it there?   A person with an education should have known because the address next door is an even number I should have been on the same side.  All he had to do was drive up to the next house and look at my number but he must have been in a hurry and just dump it at a close enough address.

Like I said I was lucky to be home at the right time and see him do this otherwise I would be making a claim for non delivery.

Another thing that gets me is my sister lives next door and has no problem and they take a picture everytime and posts it to your email where  they put it.  Nope, my email has no picture attached to it and I didn't even see him take a picture just toss the box at the post.

Yes free deliver was fast even without being a prime member but good thing I saw where it went.

anyways I blame amazon for unpatient buyers.  I grew up waiting 4-6 weeks for delivery so I learn to be patient. even during the pandemic I had to wait 28 days for a part I desperately needed for my truck that they (napa) claimed that I could have in 2 days.

But again as the others said, the message wasn't rude so they might just be wondering how long because of the times we are currently living in.

I agree with this completely.  I ordered a box of candy and it was delivered in around two days on a Sunday.   I was actually embarrassed and wanted to apologize to the USPS guy.  I didn't need, or even want it, that quickly---heck I didn't need it at all.   I sure hope he thought it was a kidney and not candy.

This is why I always send an acknowledgement of the buyer's payment with the ship date noted and then send another email after I ship with the tracking number.  If there is a holiday involved I point it out and state that there is no mail service that day.
