New listing fee for "up until sold" charges sellers 12.9% on total amount of sale including shipping? This is not right; shipping should be a pass-through charge. I just lost $30 on shipping due to this type of fees. How do you feel about that? How do we as seller's upcharge for that? How do we not lose money on shipping? I'm not here to lose money on items I ship out. Im not here to make money on shipping but Im not here to lose money on shipping.

So they are charging YOU fees for collecting sales taxes that THEY are legally obliged to collect? I'll tell you what. Your spreadsheets are impressive and well kept. Just keep doing what you are doing, and if we get audited, the IRS won't even be able to figure it out. At the worst, with your total sales, it can't be more than a few hundred dollars, and it would be great fun to sit in front of the IRS and have them try to explain why you owe them money." (FYI...audits are free when I use him to do my taxes...which I have for years). He said" Ebay is on pretty thin ice here...
Get a new accountant. He sounds incompetent. Hopefully he has someone else handling the bookkeeping. Guess you never noticed when PayPal did the same.

Yes.

of course its legal:
They charge it on the tax the buyer pays as well.
In other words
Final value of i item, plus shipping, plus tax if any; then the variable rate is calculated pulse the .30 as well.
Oh and the why of shipping is easy:
I could charge only a dollar for an item and one hundred for shipping and not pay much fees to eBay.
This is the why of fees on shipping due to such was being done to bypass eBay fees.

Based on TOTAL AMOUNT PAID which includes tax and shipping.
If you educate yourself, as you should, before selling something there are no surprises. You agreed to this when you listed the item.

Of course it is legal.
All payment processors chage their fee on the total sale to the buyer -- for merchandise, handling, shipping, sundry charges, surcharges, sales tax. It has been that way since the invention of the credit card.
Every time you buy something with your credit card, your seller pays the mechant fee based on the total you paid.

If I only had a nickel for every time this subject is posted, although there would be a 12.9% plus 30 cents fee on that nickel. LOL

How do we not lose money on shipping? We know what the deal is with eBay before we list an item for sale.

The best way to account for the fees is when you price your item. It may not be exact, since you don't know ahead of time the sales tax fee amount, but you can get pretty close.

"New listing fee.."
I may be mistaken, but I think it has been this way since 2011.....

"How do we not lose money on shipping"
thats a simple question to figure out
if you dont want to lose money on shipping then charge more for it
my category is 15%..if I want to NET $10 for shipping then I tack on 15 % and then I charge $11.50 for shipping
it all comes out in the wash

Yes, it is legal for eBay to charge a fee on the cost of shipping items sold on their platform.
I just lost $30 on shipping due to this type of fees. How do you feel about that? How do we as seller's upcharge for that? How do we not lose money on shipping?
How do I feel about -- what? The fact that you "lost $30"? I f-e-e-l that you should have known what the fees were when you listed an extremely expensive item with shipping costs that were also quite expensive.
In this case, it appears that $29.00 and two or three pennies represents eBay's 12.9% fee on your stated shipping charges of $225.00.
So -- truly -- your outrage is due only to the fact that you didn't know the terms and conditions of selling on eBay -- which are legal and are not hidden.
Congratulations on that sale!

FYI this practice started in November, 2011. Feel very confident eBay legal counsel (lawyers) made certain everything was on the up and up.
As an eBay member since 2004 guess you probably didn't read the announcement(s) or notice those fees on you eBay fee statement that was that paid through PayPal once/month when you sold some thing..
You are not communicating with eBay management - this is a discussion board (aka chat room) for eBay buyers and sellers - like you and me. - to discuss issues
