Using the SKU field

Is the SKU field alphanumeric? I would like to use the field for sorting my listings by category. Example: Any item related to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway I would code in the SKU field as "500"

Example: Any book listing in a language other than English I would code in the SKU field as "French" or simply "F"

I believe you can type whatever you want in the field.  I use this for keeping track of my inventory.  I have lots of drawer cabinets with drawers with numbers on them for larger items and letters on them for smaller items.  In the field, I'll enter something like, "Drawer E," or Drawer 14."  Then, when the item sells, I can see where the item is, and go easily find it to get it ready for shipment.  It sounds like how you plan to use it would work.

It's free-text. You can type what you want.

Using the SKU field

I have been using the SKU field this way for years.  Coffee cups = MUGS, earrings=Jewelry...etc..  I can then sort the field alphabetically, or specifically.

My SKU field names correspond to my store categories.  And I've seen where its also used for item location...1BCC, 1BCD, 1BCE, or numerical.

Just for info.........by clicking on the "all filters" tab on the Active Listings page, you can get to category search.......  but it won't show as a column......
