Problem with my listing

I sold on e-bay 15-20 years ago but now just buy from e-bay.  I would like to start selling  again but am so very confused.  Should I used managed payments?  I understand it will be mandatory by 2022, right?

 I am unable to determine how to let buys know the payment methods I accept and how to add this to my listing - please help with that.  Also, several help sites to go to say they can't help me right now - WHAT?

Re: Problem with my listing

Ebay determines the payment methods you will accept and automatically displays them on each of your listings.    There is nothing you need do or worry about.

Re: Problem with my listing

@reynold-181,

The chances are that you will be required to register for managed payments before you can make a new listing. New sellers are being registered for MP right away, and some sellers who haven't sold for a while have reported that they have to register now, or they can't make a listing.

eBay determines what payment methods buyers can use with MP; sellers don't have any choice in that.

Re: Problem with my listing

I think it is more difficult than before.  Perhaps once I am in managed payments it will get better.  However, trying to join managed payments but only get notice stating:  "We’re not yet ready for you to update your account details. We’ll send you an email and a notification in My eBay when you can get set up"  How long does it take.  Also, I am having difficulty setting up my listing.  You have to google every question you have.  I need a mentor.   How long will it take for E-Bay to contact me?

Until you receive an email saying it's time to sign up for Managed Payments, you should be able to use your Pay Pal account to get paid.

How long will it take, no one knows, but Ebay.

Have a great day.

Re: Problem with my listing

@reynold-181,

If you can't register for managed payments yet, you should be able to still list with your PayPal account to process the payments. No way to know when they will invite you, although it should be before the end of the year and probably sooner rather than later.

I started a few listings in the last few days (didn't post any though) so I could get a feel for what the situation was at the moment. I used to be a powerseller and top rated seller, but it's been long enough since then that I haven't been asked to register for MP. It looked like I could make a listing with Paypal, and there was a link on the right side of the page to "ask a question" that was supposed to be answered by "experienced sellers".

I'm not sure I would trust that though, I would advise you to come back here to the Selling board, if you have a specific question, and ask it there. You will probably get better advice here than on google, or from random "experienced sellers".

Re: Problem with my listing

Thanks for your help.

I believe the listing will cost $3.00 which is fine for now.  However, in my listing, I can't add the method of payment I accept.  As I said, I just buy from e-bay at this point and it has been years since I sold anything.  I don't know if that affects my listing now.  I put two pictures on and you can't switch from one to the other and can't add the method of payment I accept.

I feel like an idiot.   It's simple if you know where to locate the information.  It's a vicious circle.

 Thank you so much for your advice and help.

Re: Problem with my listing

@reynold-181

Creating a new listing should cost nothing, unless you decide to purchase lising upgrades (like bold, subtitle, or reserved price on an auction). I don't recommend purchasing upgrades. If you are posting an auction, where a reserve price might be appropriate, consider simply starting the auction at the minimum price you would accept. These days, where auctions are a small segment of listings, auctions are typically sold with only a single bid unless it is a really hot item.

If you don't add listing upgrads, then the only cost is the Final Value fee when the item sells (in the vicinity of 10.2% for ebay fees and 3% for paypal fees).

Since you are a returning seller with a long hiatus, eBay is probably showing you the Quick Lister (one of too many versions of listing forms).

Here is a picture of the Quick Listing form. Is this similar to what you see? If so, there is a "change" in the corner of the payment area near the bottom of the form where you can update your PayPal email address for payment.

If your listing form does not look like that, you may have been started on the Unified Listing form. It's a little different but there are still editing options that can be opened, which look somewhat similar to the "change" options shown in the above listing form.

Could I close my present account and open a new account?  Do you think it would be any faster?

@reynold-181, that's because you don't need to do anything about methods of payment.

eBay controls that now, sellers don't have to worry about it or do anything about it. All eBay transactions have to go through the eBay checkout page, and eBay will show the buyers what payment options they have. As long as your payments are being processed by PayPal, the payment will be sent to your PayPal account no matter how the buyer pays.

So you really aren't missing anything, you're just looking for something that isn't there.

@shipscript is right, though. You shouldn't have to pay anything for listing it. It isn't really cost-effective to pay for listing upgrades. The only ones that cost $3.00 are a bold title, or a subtitle, and they're not worth it. Most buyers will never even notice them.

Re: Problem with my listing

What would be your point in opening a new account?

Are you aware that you would lose the FB you have?

In either case, you would still be a new seller and would have the new seller limits in regard to number of listings and having your funds held.

Re: Problem with my listing

I'm sorry, what is FB.

I thought by opening a new accunt I would get faster service?

Thank you for all your help.  I see I will just have to wait.  I appreciate your knowledge.

Re: Problem with my listing

FB is feedback.  Opening a new account will not get faster service.

@reynold-181

FYI, if you are filling in the listing details, and then hit preview at the bottom, you won't be able to switch between the pictures in the listing preview, but they will be just fine after it's listed.
