OK, I admit this is bad

Sold some items 10 years ago, but just returned to the selling, so I consider myself a novice at selling on ebay. Last Saturday, I sold an item that I had previously listed on ebay to a friend. Forgot to remove it from my ebay listing. Had a medical emergency on Sunday. In hospital Monday and Tuesday. Just got home this morning only to open my email and see that the item sold yesterday. I have emailed the purchaser and now am trying to find out how to cancel this so she gets her money back. I know I will get a negative comment, which I absolutely deserve. Any directions on how to cancel will be greatly appreciative. And now am wondering if I should continue selling.

FWIW...It appears you have constructive dialogue with your buyer....

I know in the past I have asked a buyer to allow me to cancel/refund an order and they agreed to it...

(as I understand it if you choose a refund (buyer requested) they have to OK it on their end)

no harm no foul......

You need to cancel the order as out of stock.

Since you haven't sold in awhile, the funds will be held.

You need to add a credit/debit card to cover fee's and the refund.

Once the buyers payment is released, the funds will be sent to your checking account.

Have a great day.

As suggested, use the cancel "out of stock" to refund.

Don't use any weasel methods to get out of the situation.

Yes, I think your buyer will be mad, I would be.  If I was the buyer, I would think you simply wanted more for your item than what you received.  How would you feel if you were the buyer?

Anyway, not trying to be mean, but think about it.

You can email the buyer first and explain. Ask them if they would like a refund.  Of course, they will say yes. Then you can use cancelled because buyer requested.  Kinda tricky but it work. I would also let the buyer know that they can have  20% off (or whatever or free shipping) on a future purchase. Apologize again and make sure that if they do come back, to honor that discount.  I hope that all is well for you and your family.

Now before I get bombarded with emails, I know that it a little white lie but ebay should have an excuse when a buyer is ill or has a family emergency.  There was a very good chance if the seller did not have this emergency, they would have cancelled the listing.

Thank you so much ms. rodriguez for this information. This leads to wonder what I should do about other items that I currently have listed on ebay.  I am on a restricted mobility regimen for a month. I am thinking that  I should suspend the items that I currently have listed until I regain my health. This one incident has me really thinking about what I need to do. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I absolutely agree krazzykats. I would certainly be disappointed.

I think I would.  Until you are feeling better, and life is under control.  Maybe even for a week or 2.

I love the mixer, but it's one item in particular that may require special packaging that you might not feel up to.  Necklace and purse, maybe not so much.

Then beyond packaging, you will still have to mail the items, and if you don't feel well, you don't need that worry too.

But if you are hurting, worry about yourself first.  Best wishes!

Thank you so much. I appreciate your support. I'll be out of commission for about a month.  I wish ebay communications had this option 10 years ago. This has been very helpful for me.  Best Regards.

Why can't you say to buyer it will be a little late delivering it? Ask if buyer doesn't mind waiting for item. Have any family or friends that can mail it?  A sale is basically a sale.  Can't your friend who you helped sell the item help you? My own opinion, it seems like you didn't get the price you wanted it to go for. Buyer will probably not give you a favorable feedback. I think you might get a demerit also. That would probably hurt future selling. I would find some way to mail it out.

@12345jamesstamps  I dont think you read the post correctly.

The item was sold to a friend -

The item sold also on eBay -

The correct thing to do is apologize to the eBay buyer and cancel for Out Of Stock.

I no longer have the item. I agree to all you saw. This was very bad on my part. I admit to that. I have suspended my other items while I am on medical restrictions. Thank you.

Don't give up selling for 1 mistake. Explain what happened to your friend and see if he will return the item to you. If he is a real friend he will help you. If he won't return it then you contact the buyer and tell her that the item is no longer available and you would like to cancel the sale.
