Lately I'm noticing the listing tool has been hit or miss on how it actually displays when entering text in the description field. All my listings have a pretty much standard layout and simple (18 or 14 pt Arial font, bold or unbold and black or red text). I don't mess in the HTML, just the basic editor.
For the past few weeks, when I revisit the listing, things that are supposed to be bold are not and carriage returns are missing. This makes the description very hard to digest for a buyer. I go back to edit the listing and sure enough, it omitted my formatting. When I edit back in the formatting, it's arbitrary what will stick and what won't, so description still looks pretty bad. I even cleared out all description information and pasted it back in from notepad to input raw text. That did the trick, but when I go to apply the formatting (again, using the basic editor), it omits carriage returns and bolded fonts again.
I've duplicated this on multiple browsers, cache/cookies cleared. This tells me it's an issue with the description editor.

Did some more investigating. The basic listing editor is breaking the HTML code when adding bold formatting. It's inputting "<b>" with no corresponding "</b>" and adding a "<strongr></strongr>" tag set. I have no clue what "strongr" even is in HTML, but I do know what the "strong" tag is. If you add bold formatting in the basic editor and switch over to HTML view, you should see the issue, and when switching back to basic editing, it's messes up the description because the HTML code is bad.
eBay developers please fix this.

Apparently this has been occurring since Feb and is currently an unresolved glitch. See this thread:
