I have a starter store and my understanding is that I can add 250 items per month.

My subscription runs the first of month until the end. I've listed less than 10 items and my count is down to 202 items left.  Why?

Hi @loftylmo

You get a TOTAL of 250 for each month, not 250 this month and 250 next month equaling 500.  Any listings over 250 in a specific month will result in you paying insertion fees on any over 250.  You currently have 320 live listings.  If they ALL Relist in the same month you will owe insertion fees on 70 of them.

Buy it now items are Good til Cancelled meaning they automatically Relist the same day each month on the day they went live.  They will keep doing that until you End them or they Sell.  Ended listings are moved to your Unsold file, they will remain there for 90 days or until you Relist them or delete them and after 90 days eBay drops them and they are gone.

Auction listings take one insertion each time it is listed or relisted.

On Seller Hub's Promotional Tile it shows you how many of your monthly listings you have used and how many you have left.  Here is a screen shot I prepared for another member trying to understand what the 250 Insertions per month really means.  This is from my store, I have auction listings too.

All of your items will re list each month and eBay uses your 250 listings to re list your items. That may be why you are seeing a loss.

As a longtime Starter Store subscriber, you are correct in terms of how many items you can list for free.

But if there is an issue regarding how many or how few items are active, there are three reasons that I come up with varying levels of whether you decide to keep items up.  Or, if any item is getting any page views, let alone enticing enough for a buyer to leave a best offer--try to keep these points in mind:

1) Could there be a glitch?  If that is the case, call Customer Service and tell them your situation.

2) Did you decide to delete or put over 200 items in the Unsold category, which I think would be a major stretch--as opposed to let's say between 20 to 40 items you decide are not getting much traffic.  This way, you can figure out which items don't sell at the current time.  Just make sure to check back in a month or two if there is any moment when you do your Product Research.

3) Think of the positive side of things--if you get a sale, it is like getting an extra item to list for free.  It definitely comes in handy when the final week/days of the month rolls around.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the prompt replies.  So I  guess my best option is to first get rid of some lesser listings and then maybe in time  get a larger store.

Thanks again!

You are more than welcome.  When I opened my first store I waited until my "average" sale was just over the monthly store subscription cost.  That way I could figure that it only took one "average" sale per month to pay for the store.

You have 317 listings as of Sep 24.

Those listed on Sep 24 would renew Oct 24, Nov 24, Dec 24 etc.

Multiply that by the items that were listed on Sep 25, Oct 4, Oct 14 etc etc. and in 30 days from that listing date, they will 'renew'.

You probably need a bigger store to get more free listings.
