File Exchange issues with return fields

Starting a day or so ago, I started getting errors reported on the return fields.

Error - A return option is missing or not valid. Update your return options.|ReturnsAcceptedOption||Error - A return option is missing or not valid. Update your return options.|ReturnsWithinOption||Error - A return option is missing or not valid. Update your return options.|ShippingCostPaidByOption||

I have all of these fields in my upload file, and am using the same template I've used to upload 1000's of items without issues.

My field values are:

ReturnsAcceptedOptionReturnsWithinOptionRefundOptionShippingCostPaidBy
ReturnsAcceptedDays_30MoneyBackSeller

I have attempted to load an item from a file that was successfully loaded last week, and it also fails with the above errors.  (I changed the item title slightly to avoid a duplicate item issue.)

I have also set up a business policy for returns, and added the ReturnProfileName field and the name of my profile.  I removed the 4 fields above, since I shouldn't need them according to the documentation once I have a business policy set up, but I still receive the same errors.

I'd appreciate any insight anyone has into this issue!

@dk0

Is this typo in your file, or only in you post here?

ShippingCostPaidBy --> ShippingCostPaidByOption

Once you have opted into business policies, you'll need to use the ReturnProfileName exclusively.   Check the spelling of the the profile name.

I assume that the prior working file was tested before your switch to business policies.

File Exchange had some issues for several days where spurious failures were appearing in files that contained empty columns, and removing those empty columns seemed to get around the issue. However, that problem was fixed two days ago. If you can't find a typo in your field data, then this may be one more lingering issue, particularly if a previously working upload now fails.

Re: File Exchange issues with return fields

Hello, I am having the same problems. Everything was working fine until last Friday, April 23.

I tried fixing the errors with the top replay, but I was unable to fix it.

I created a software service for other sellers, and I would appreciate any help on the errors.

Here is the list of errors that I am getting:

@my-art-store

Be sure that all empty columns and empty rows are removed, since that was the fix for the original problems.

@Anonymous   are we still seeing artifacts of the File Exchange interpreter update? A new problem introduced with last week's fix?

Re: File Exchange issues with return fields

@shipscript

The column you asked about was not a typo, I've been using ShippingCostPaidBy without issues.

Some background info.  I used TurboLister to create and upload listings for many years.  (I would actually create my listings in Excel, upload the file to TL, and make some edits and check that my photos were correct.)

When TL stopped allowing me to upload those listings last summer, I started exporting my listings in File Exchange format, which worked fine.  Then late last year, I could no longer use TL at all, so I used Excel to create the File Exchange format file, based on what had been created from TL.  Apparently, the name of that field has been changed somewhere along the line, but it did work.

My files do have many blank fields, since TL appears to have created columns regardless as to whether there were any values to put in there.  I've always thought about deleting the blank fields, but I would have to make sure that none of them were required, and since it was working, it was low in the priority list.

I have never looked into Business Policies until the other day, because I saw something a while back that led to me believe it was something that wasn't ever going to be used as eBay originally intended.  I didn't want to change to BP, only to have it discontinued down the road.

I tried it to see if that would solve the issue, but I probably didn't do it correctly.  Now having the need to learn about BP, I do see how I could save time using them, so I am cleaning up the many hundreds of policies that eBay has created, and I will have to determine the correct format for File Exchange.  It appears that I will need to eliminate many fields from the file since they will be determined by the policy specified for each listing.

Re: File Exchange issues with return fields

I have cleaned up the 100s of policies that eBay created for me, and eliminated a lot of fields from my File Exchange template.  (I eliminated fields that weren't applicable to my items as well as the ones that were superseded by info held in the Business Policies.)

Happily, I was able to successfully upload the items today that wouldn't load several days ago.  Now I have to change all of my other templates to use BP as well.

Quite a hassle the last few days, but will probably be worth it in the long run, since BP will save me a lot of time when postage rates change, or other issues come up that require mass changes to my listings.

Hi @dk0@my-art-store, & @shipscript ,

Thanks all for posting, I'm sorry to see there have been trouble with your uploads.

Part of us upgrading File Exchange and starting to move to Seller Hub Reports has been that many files created from Turbo Lister are no longer working.

A good number of people that I've worked with have had a duplication of Custom Label columns in their files, both "Custom Label" & "CustomLabel". Deleting the "Custom Label" column has worked in fixing other files. Give that a try.

As for a long-term outlook, the files created from Turbo Lister have a massive amount of invalid columns/data, many of which reference features that haven't existed on eBay in 10+ years, so future compatibility issues are possible. My best recommendation would be to operate using a template downloaded directly from File Exchange; If you want to continue to use Turbo Lister files, you can always copy and paste the relevant data in our template. I can understand this introduces more work, but it's the most foolproof way to keep your files from failing.

Hope this helps!

Re: File Exchange issues with return fields

Possible solution-- one that worked for me:

Opt-in to ebay's business solutions. Or if you're already in, set up a default return policy.

Account Settings>Business Policies>Create Policy>Return>Check the box "Set as default return policy"
