File Exchange business policies

I'm helping a seller with a FE template spreadsheet with these columns:

PayPalAccepted,PayPalEmailAddress,ImmediatePayRequired,PaymentInstructions,*Location,ShippingType,ShippingService-1:Option,ShippingService-1:Cost,ShippingService-2:Option,ShippingService-2:Cost,*DispatchTimeMax,PromotionalShippingDiscount,ShippingDiscountProfileID,DomesticRateTable,*ReturnsAcceptedOption,ReturnsWithinOption,RefundOption,ShippingCostPaidByOption,RestockingFeeValueOption
1 ,xxx@xxx.com , , ,92807 ,Flat ,USPSStandardPost ,0 ,USPSPriority ,15 ,1 , , , ,ReturnsAccepted ,Days_30 ,MoneyBack ,Buyer ,Percent_20

It is not clear to me how he would convert this to Business Policies. How many of the default headings should be removed and replaced with:

"PaymentProfileName", "ReturnProfileName", "ShippingProfileName"
And how are the two "Free Economy" and "Expedited" shipping services to be shown in the spreadsheet (or does one business policy include multiple service options)?

Thanks

@shipscript - Great question. I appreciate you helping out other sellers on eBay.

When using Business Policies through File Exchange, it's best to remove all individual headers/containers for Payment, Shipping, and Returns.

You'll start using these headers instead: PaymentProfileName, ShippingProfileName, and ReturnProfileName.

No need to have multiple ShippingProfileName headers for multiple shipping. All information/shipping services will be available within the Shipping Policy:

The file will look something like this:

Hope this helps with your question.

@pocomocomputing

I don't know if you have the answer to this question, but it is related to business policies, where, as I seem to recall, you have had a difficult experience and have been quite helpful. I know that policies have an underlying number to which a seller can apply a policy "name" for easy reference. Presumably, a policy can not be deleted if it is in use by a listing, but can a seller change the name of an existing business policy without affecting existing listings that use the old name, or must a new policy be created to use the new name? Is this something that you have tried?

A policy is in use when in an active listing, a completed listing (Sold and Unsold for the 90 days they are online in eBay), an eBay scheduled listing, and presumably in drafts pending completion (never tried drafts so I do not know for sure).

A policy cannot be deleted if it is in use as defined above based on my experience and it also makes sense.

Policies can be renamed and active listings will accept the change. But I do recall that completed listings will not change the policy name in use at the time and you will have two policies. I used to make a note in the policy description saying that the policy was discontinued and to delete on a date around 90 days after I changed it. It was annoying to have the old policy stay in the policies with no active listing count and have to remember to not use it so I used the note to not use it.

There were a couple of times I could not delete a policy and there were no active listings or completed listings or scheduled listings that I could see. Maybe a draft, maybe a completed listing or a scheduled listing that were deleted but not visible to me. Eventually I could delete all if I waited long enough.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I have not sold on eBay in a couple of years and only check the forums lately once a week or so. I will add a disclaimer to my comments above that my experience with Business Polices is 2+ years old now and things might have changed. But what I posted makes logical sense from how I would expect business policies to be implemented in the eBay system as I know it to work.

File Exchange business policies

@mypaymentstest

I wonder if you could help with another question specific to this upload:

FileExchange_Response_915143590

These are the only three fields uploaded for payment, shipping, and returns; the FE headers shown on top line and seller custom profile names on second line.

,PaymentProfileName	,ShippingProfileName	,ReturnProfileName
,Default_Payment ,Shipping_OneItem	,Default_Return

which produced these warnings:

Warning - PayPal added as a payment method because you have set your preference to offer PayPal on all listings."

Does the PayPal warning mean I need to add back the FE fields for

PayPalAccepted,PayPalEmailAddress

or does that mean there is something wrong with the construction of the seller business policies?

Warning - Return Policy Attribute returnDescription Not Valid On This Site| returnDescription"

Again, is there something wrong with the seller business policies or is a FE header missing?  And returnDescription does not look like standard API formatting - something else?

Thanks for your help Smiley Happy

The seller added the two above fields to the FE file and the PayPal warning went away, so it appears these fields are necessary, even with business policies in place.

We are still stuck on this message:

Warning - Return Policy Attribute returnDescription Not Valid On This Site| returnDescription"

@shipscript - Thank you for sharing this with us. These two messages are informative and is a result of changes going through the eBay site.

Good workaround for the PayPal message. It's linked to Site Preference settings:

image.png

Adjusting these will also disable the "Warning" message when wanting to just use "PaymentProfileName" header instead of the individual PayPal headers.

As for the "Returns" warning message, this one should be appearing for some time. This would need to be updated by our system for all listings that was once using the old features of the Returns that allowed Return instructions. If a recent update of the Return policies has been made through the "Business Policies" page, this would enact the "Warning" message as well. It can be annoying. I don't have a timeframe on how long it will take for our site to take to completely update listings that once had "Additional Instructions". I'll have to do some testing on this and get back to you.

Sincerely,
