I use a Nikon Coolpix point and shoot camera to list items and I plug it into my laptop to charge the battery. Just recently when I plugged it in it would not stop charging after around seven hours. The light on it kept blinking so I just pressed the button to turn it off. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? Does the battery need to be replaced?

Maybe try Google -
Google the item and issue and a lot of the times you will get your answer.

I had to replace my coolpix battery at one point. You can try removing the battery and putting it back in. See if that changes anything.
I ordered another battery online thru AMZ. Been working fine since then.
Before replacing the battery, the camera would not even turn on. Battery was doa.

I did take out the battery and put it back in. I'll see if it helps. I also recently bought a new power cord because it appeared the one it came with did not charge properly. This new cord does not appear to be from the company, it looks thinner and was charging a lot slower, maybe this could be the problem also.
