Business Policies are not changing properly after being edited and is creating useless copies

Business Policies are not changing properly after being edited and the tool is creating copies and making them be the default with incorrect information. I've been editing and re-editing these for the past week. I give the system several hours to update and I come back and see it's created more copies.

 

The policies in question are for shipping and returns. Screenshots:

I've made several changes and deleted some listings.

 

The activity log is stuck at 9-3-21.  It's 9-5-21. The policy description displays  "5 listings failed the update and have been reassigned to a copy of this policy" however,  it has not created a copy or reassigned anything. Thank goodness for that!

 

Have you been "nominated"  (😀) to take over for John? Can you do something to regenerate the USPSFirstClass shipping business policy, please? Or is that someone else? Thank you!

@huntfor   You are TOO polite and professional to scare anyone away ... on my Templates I leave specific sections incomplete as they will vary from item to item ... example would be cast iron skillets.  A small one weighs a whole lot less than a big one so the weight and package dimensions are always left blank BUT they are all heavy enough I have the shipping service pre-filled (Parcel Select & Priority Mail ... even though Parcel Select seems to be going away).

Lol, no, I don't know John - I'm just a volunteer that spent entirely too much time on business policies during my first year selling on eBay because I thought I had to.

 

Did you move those 5 listings to another business policy?

     - If no, nothing else can happen until you assign a new BP to those 5.

If yes, have you tried updating your default policy since 9/3?

 

The default policy won't update on its own - the date/time you see now is valid for the last time you made edits. You don't necessarily have to make changes to update it, you can just open it, then save it again - your goal is to update your default policy until you see the message "Updated Successfully".

@mr_lincoln How nice of you to say! You're a true gentleman. Your templates are great. I'll follow your example.  I put a halt on all my sourcing until I get my art listed. For now, I'll create a few templates with various shipping methods and name the spreadsheet templates with them.  As far as Parcel Select goes, maybe it will be replaced by a different name.

 

I can't even lift a cast iron skillet, but they command great prices. Maybe I'll bring a little ole wheelbarrow with me next time.

@huntfor   LOL on the wheelbarrow!  I actually built a special cart so I can move them around easier!

@popblox Thank you for being a volunteer. John was working in the eBay listing tools dept but said he's transferring to a different team. He said he'd let his replacement know what was going on with the shipping policies and, voilá, you replied!

 

Progress is being made and this is weird. One item number - error - sorry, something went wrong...

@mr_lincoln I thought that would make you laugh! You're very handy. I have rolling carts to haul stuff around. Possibly one large cast iron pot and a few smalls would fit in one.

The item was a completely different one that was not in any of the earlier reports.

 

I detached it by changing it to USPSPriority and the listing is correct.  I deleted the copy of first class that was generated after I downloaded the report. It shows the error I showed in my screenshot. I just opened it again and saved it and it hasn't changed. I clicked on cleanup and it shows the usual:  

  • "This job is currently running or has completed in the last 24 hours. Please try again later."

@popblox The report showed 5 new errors this morning, so I fixed them.  There wasn't anything to fix so I edited the titles and changed the system-created "USPSFirstClass copy" shipping choice back to USPSFirstClass in those 5 listings.

 

Next, I edited USPSFirstClass back to 1 day handling, since nothing changed when just opening and saving the policy again.  Yesterday, I temporarily set it for 2 day handling.

 

Everything is successful! 

 

I believe I also know how this started. When I was listing one at a time, my shipping service name was USPS First Class (with spaces). When I changed to using the bulk listing tool about 3 weeks ago or less, the shipping name had to be without spaces: USPSFirstClass

I'm exhausted. I didn't realize that having a problem was helping me procrastinate! LOL! Lots of new listings and lots more to go.
