seller edited item description after being messaged regarding item not as described

Bought a wireless mouse being sold as usb and bluetooth compatible. it arrives, I notice there's no "bluetooth" or "bt" setting on the switch so check the instructions. no mention in them on how to pair it.

I message the seller asking how to switch to bluetooth mode, they respond "plug the usb receiver into your computer and turn it on," I explained that I bought it because it was advertised as bluetooth (after having made thoroughly sure before purchasing and again before messaging the seller with my question) and I have no use for a usb mouse.

they respond "Hello, we never wrote anything about the mouse having Bluetooth in the description."
what?
I check the listing again and sure enough they'd edited it and deleted both of the claims of bluetooth compatibility. that's so dirty. the listing as of the date of purchase is archived, right? I put in a not as described ticket but I'm all but positive they're going to deny wrongdoing, otherwise why would they edit the description and lie to me? please tell me they're not going to get away with that.

the funny thing is, the item cost all of 10$. but it's the principle at this point. just kind of baffled they would pull this over 10$.

well that went smoother than expected. they refunded within 10 minutes of the ticket opening. Still, that's a seriously dirty thing to do. maybe somebody out there will find this amusing.

There is no way to edit a sold listing. Go and check the item you bought and not a live item.

that's good to know, I had no idea that was both stored and easily accessible in the event something like this happens. gotta wonder why they edited it if it was this easy to disprove. I mean why tell me "you're wrong" rather than just issue the refund and change the listing? gotta assume it was an error and not deliberately misleading, which makes it more confusing that they didn't own up to it when questioned.

Re: seller edited item description after being messaged regarding item not as described

you realize that checking a listing isn't the same as checking the item details as they were at time of purchase? and that most people who aren't longtime ebay users with experience dealing with this sort of stuff have no idea you can simply view the listing as it appeared at time of purchase by checking your purchases? not sure what you're getting at here but I'm glad monster deals clued me in. bought tons of stuff on here and it had never occurred to me until now that somebody might edit a listing to shake an inad claim, much less the way to prove they'd done it without ebay staff stepping in.

Re: seller edited item description after being messaged regarding item not as described

To help out anybody else in my situation: go to the listing from your purchases list, click "item you purchased" at the top.

In my case they WAY oversold it. I have no idea why they did this, but here's the original claim

Wired, Wireless, Wireless & Wired, Bluetooth, Infrared, Lightning, Parallel (IEEE 1284), PS/2, RF, Serial (RS-232), USB

And, after the "we never said it was bluetooth" message:

Wireless & Wired, Lightning, USB

I think what happened here was they had the details from a previous listing copied to the clipboard and pasted them to the wrong item. It happens. What isn't okay is editing it after the fact then lying about it. Hoping this info saves somebody a headache in the future. A seller can edit a multi-item listing after a sale but you can still see that listing exactly as it existed at the time of purchase via the "item you purchased" link on the edited listing.
