Seller sent me a full refund without a return request from me. Does this mean the seller doesn't want the defective item returned.

A buyer has no obligation to return a defective item if the seller has not provided a prepaid return label. This seller probably decided that the cost of the return shipping was greater to him than the value of the item after it was returned.

Yes it does.   The seller rather then spend more money to get it back decided to cut their loses and just refund. Your now free to keep or dispose of the merchandise.

Something you need to ask the seller.

Some new sellers get confused on the correct order of doing things, like refunding before returning, so it is possible they would like the item returned.

It sounds like you contacted the seller and let them know there was an issue with the item you purchased but you didn't actually open a return request.

It also sounds like the seller went ahead and just issued a refund to make it easier on the both of you (buyer and seller) so you don't have to hassle with returning the item.
