I ordered auto parts and received a package from the seller, but unfortunately, it was just an empty envelope. The seller said they would contact the shipping company but didn’t provide any further update. So, I applied for a return.
However, the return shipping label they provided had incorrect dimensions and was rejected by the post office.
As a result, I paid for the return shipping myself. A new tracking number was created, but since the seller already registered a different tracking number, I am unable to update it with the correct one.
In this situation, is it possible to change the return tracking number?

Hi @dbbox257
I don't totally understand what happened. If the seller provided you with a prepaid shipping label through the return process ... after you opened a return request ... then you should have been able to use that label regardless of the dimensions of the box/envelope you used to return the empty envelope. [If it was rejected, then your next step should have been to ask eBay to step in after 3 business days passed after opening the return request.]
Since you already returned the item on your dime ... you may need to phone your credit card company and request a chargeback as soon as tracking shows the package has been delivered back to the seller. Just explain what happened and provide the tracking number proving delivery.

Thank you for your response.
To clarify the situation:
The seller did provide a prepaid return label after I opened the return request, but the label was rejected by the post office because it was not a registered label in their system.
I contacted the seller again, but received no help. Since I didn't want to miss the return window, I paid for return shipping myself.
The return has already been shipped to the seller, and I have a valid tracking number showing proof of delivery.
However, since there's already a return tracking number registered by the seller, the system doesn't allow me to enter or update mine.
I understand I may need to involve eBay or my credit card company, but before I take that step, I wanted to ask:
Is there any way I can manually update the return tracking number on the case, or can eBay help confirm delivery using the tracking number I used?
Thank you for your guidance.

Hi @dbbox257 . Sorry to hear you're dealing with a scammer.
The seller is using fraudulent tracking and it's not OK. I wish you would have come here for advice before paying to ship the return to save yourself some $, but that's done so let's move forward.
Your best option here is to send a DM to one of eBay's social CS teams: ebay on facebook or askebay on X
Tell them the seller gave you an unmanifested fraudulent return label and you purchased your own return label. Ask them to add the tracking number to the return. They can help you with that. You should also tell them you want to report the seller for sending an empty package and providing a fraudulent return label.
Come back if you need more help and feel free to @ mention me so I'll see your reply.

Thanks for the suggestion! I don’t have Facebook or X accounts. Is there another way I can contact eBay’s customer service to update the tracking number and report the seller? I already tried through the return center but couldn’t find the option.

You can go through the help pages and the automated chat bot. Keep saying agent and you should be able to either get a call back or chat with a live rep. I’d wait until business hours tomorrow.

I don’t have Facebook or X accounts either … but I would create one If I needed to contact an eBay agent.
I understand that the eBay agents on social media are the most knowledgeable and capable of solving problems. You can close the social media account after the problem is handled if you wish.

I agree with you.
I just joined Facebook and sent a message to eBay.
But there's no answer😭
