1. Is it 37 days after they placed the order or 37 days after the order was delivered? A buyer has 30 days from the date of delivery to file a claim.
2. Was it a remorse return request or a not as described claim?
3. If the request was filed through eBay, did you accept it or did eBay auto-accept it?
4. Was the return label issued through eBay? If so, it's not possible to cancel it.

Did you approve a Return request, or just purchase a label? How did you buy it?

You could have declined it since it's more than 30 days past delivery. Since you approved it there's no way to cancel the label.
Look at it this way: if you declined it the buyer might have filed a chargeback with their credit card which would have resulted in you refunding without getting your item back - or with you fighting the claim, losing and being out the $ the item and a bonus $20 chargeback fee.

If this is an Ebay issued return label, if it's never used you're never charged.

hopefully ebay will not allow the return but what can you do.

The return was already approved. If your buyer ships it back you will have to refund. If the buyer doesn't ship it back then you won't have to pay for the return shipping label and eventually (after about a month) the return will time out and the hold on your funds released. It's in the buyer's hands at this point.
