buyer return request

I have a situation where I need help and advice and I will try to be brief. I sold a golf driver to a buyer and he now wants to return it claiming it has been altered which is not true. He also claims the grip is not original as I stated which I never did so here is my problem.

1. I never altered the club but of course I cannot prove that.

2. He asked if the driver came with a Honma grip and I replied yes which it did. I never used the word original even though it is the Honma grip that came with the driver.

3. The buyer has resorted to threats and name calling...deceitful, nasty, a bully, etc.

4. He left negative feedback within 30 minutes of filing a claim....very negative feedback

Here is my problem/question. I messaged him telling him I will not accept the return since his claims are false. I am sure he will ask Ebay to step in and in my experience within 1 hour Ebay will side withe buyer without hearing my side. How do I get my response to Ebay before they decide as I am only given 2 options..accept the return or offer a complete or partial refund. I feel I should be able to respond to Ebay before a decision is made. E=even though I have been a member of Ebay for over 15 years and have over 1500 transactions I do not think Ebay takes this into consideration. Sorry for the long read and any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated

Hi @golfincolors

I would think that an item sold as ‘New Other’ would have ALL the original parts … whether or not mentioned specifically in the listing.  [I don’t believe you mentioned what made it ‘Other’.]

If you attempt to fight the return in any way … this is what eBay will almost definitely do:

1.  Refund the buyer in full with your money and let them keep the driver.

2.  Withhold your selling fees.

3.  Add a defect to your account.

You can swear to eBay that you didn’t change the grip … but did you purchase it yourself from the manufacturer to know that it hadn’t been changed by someone else?

I’m not trying to dispute what you said … but rather to show you the difficulty of proving it to eBay.  We all have read posts from dozens (if not hundreds) of honest sellers who have tried to avoid having to refund a buyer they were convinced was in the wrong.

I’m very sorry, but you have nothing to gain by talking with an eBay rep before the buyer can ask eBay to step in.  You will only make the refund immediate, rather than in a few days.  ☹️

Being sold as new, don't think it would have the scratches and dings as that one does.

Have a great day.

Re: buyer return request

Fight it! Disregard what others are saying to you that you should swallow this. You are dealing with an underhanded buyer. Document everything, including the defamation  the buyer put into print. Call eBay at 866-501-3229 and calmly explain it. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose by defending yourself.

There’s always something to lose by calling a number someone says is for eBay that is NOT for eBay.  😯

Re: buyer return request

not going to keep this going but I did a picture of the grip after he messaged me "does it have the Honma grip" and I replied yes. It is original since the Honma name is on the grip. Next he basically said he removed the grip to see if the shaft had been altered and he also said that the Honma logo is on the side. Little did he know that after he asked the question and before buying I took a picture of the grip and 1 where it shows that the logo is up, not to the side. He says the driver is 43.5" but it was 45" when I sent it. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he does not know how to measure a driver but the logo...I have proof. For all of you that defend the buyer do you condone all the name calling and the worst being that he hopes I catch an STD...real nice person. He has called me every name you can thing of and says my feedback is false. I only hope Ebay reads all the messages and sees the type of person I am dealing with.

In closing what bothers me the most is that the buyer is allowed to state his reason for a return but as a seller I have no way to reply to his completely false claims. I think they name streets after this policy and they are called One Way. I promise you I am seeing this to the finish and if anyone is interested I will post the outcome good or bad
