What happens if the return item goes missing?

I'm considering buying a wooden sculpture for approximately $200. I'm assuming I'll be the one paying for shipping cost both ways if I decide to return the item. But what happens if something goes wrong with the return, or if the buyer say he never received the item?

Re: What happens if the return item goes missing?

Return policy will be stated on the listing.

- If it says "free returns" that means seller covers return shipping costs.

- If it says something like "30 days, buyer pays" that means you as the buyer pay for return shipping costs.

- If it says "no returns" that means the seller can decline a return request if you changed your mind. If the item is backed up by eBay's Money Back Guarantee then you can return if there's a problem with the item (arrives broken, wrong item sent, etc) despite a seller's "no returns" policy.

Assuming it's buyer pays returns and you're returning because you changed your mind, you can choose to use the eBay generated return shipping label, but it will not be insured. If you'd prefer an insured label you can purchase one outside of eBay. Make sure you upload the tracking number to the return if you purchase the label outside of eBay. The tracking is what confirms seller's receipt of the package.
