What happens if buyer does not return item?

A buyer opened a return , i sent him a shipping label and Ebay gave him 35 days to return the item. I am on the 33 day and the buyer hasn´t shipped back the item yet.  Ebay will close the return if he doesn´t ship ? Or i have to contact customer care to explain all this situation so they can close it?

It should auto-close soon after the return period expires. The few I've had seem to close within 24 hours after the return period expired but in some cases it can be a few days.  Don't be surprised if the buyer waits until day 35 to return, that has happened as well. Good luck!

The system is automated. Calling in to ask them to close it is a waste of time. EBay won't do that.

Buyer never shipped the item back and i received this message from Ebay:

"" indicated that they posted their return. The item should now be delivered and once you've received it, please issue the buyer with a refund by April 20, 2023.

Once you refund the buyer, we'll credit eligible fees to you as per our fee credit policy.

If the item hasn't arrived yet, the buyer may not be returning it. if you like, you can contact buyer. If you can't reach a resolution, you can ask us to step in and help.

i already asked ebay to step in but we already know they will side with the thief

we were all instructed not to call in anymore to try and close a slow return. maybe you missed that notice

as other have mentioned its all automated and you will just have to wait..if the buyer does not return the item thats all it means.it does not mean they are a thief

Yes he is. a thief. Its a 2K item.. Someone who iniciates a 2k item return sends the item right away to get his money back. He had 35 days to return the item but instead he let the case open because he knew that Ebay was going to side with him.

Again, unless you receive the item back from the buyer, you will not be refunding.  

How/why/in what scenario would eBay side with the buyer in this case?
