Unique return request

Hi All,

Buyer purchased a sealed, pricey (at $30) CD from me. Just emailed now (13 days past 30 day window) and said he just discovered a duplicate he had in storage.

So far, I realize this sounds like a straightforward "decline" on my part, but there's a bit more to it:

He asked if I'd just "like to have it back" and he said since it's his fault, no need to refund him. OR, that if I "want to refund him, that'd be 'great too!'".

If I say "oh yeah, sure-  send it back and thanks" with no refund,  that seems rather odd.

Then again, having him return for full refund because he didn't notice he already had one, AND it's past the return window also  feels wrong.

There's another consideration as well: I'm a new seller with only 11 fb scores, all positive, and should he decide he doesn't like my decision (for some reason), the neg fb would really hurt me right now so I am needing to be extra careful in that dept as well.

Ugh. I really know what to do here. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I would accept the return and refund him completely.   Return shipping should be on him though.  He deserves a refund on his honesty, if nothing else.

I wouldn’t even respond. He’s had it for over 30 days. Nope!

If they haven't opened a case (seems they haven't)...

"Thanks I really appreciate it but that was a spare I decided to sell as I already have one.  Feel free to resell it or even donate it!  Thanks again!"

Hey everyone, Just want to thank all of you for you for your responses! It sure is nice to have this community available as a new seller!

I sort of did a fusion of everyone's input:

I told him I was sorry to hear about the duplicate, that I greatly appreciated his offer, but that I could not accept the return w/out refunding him and that as we are past the return-window I unfortunately couldn't do so. I let him know, that due to the flaw he encountered, however, I went ahead and refunded him 25% of the price and that I hope that helps!

Well see what happens…

What an odd first return experience lol!

Thanks again everyone-  it was interesting to hear all the different viewpoints!
