Hi, I have researched this question on the boards and am seeing different responses. This is for a return for INAD. Ebay sent me the return label because the seller never responded to my return request. I am attempting to add the tracking, because that is what it looks like I need to do here. But of course getting the "not recognized" message. Some say I need to have ebay do it manually because it is a glitch and others say ebay automatically adds once label is generated. Even ebay on the FAQ section says they automatically upload tracking. But where is it? I am nervous to drop the package at USPS without being able to see where the tracking is located within the return details. Or do I just trust it is there?

If it's an eBay-generated return label, the tracking will update in the Return case. Fear not...

If Ebay supplied the shipping label, the tracking number should be in the return case.
It's a good idea to keep a copy of the tracking number, in case there are problems later.

Ebay didn't send you a return label because the seller didn't respond; they sent you a label because when you open a Not As Described return, the seller has to pay for the return shipping and ebay then gives the buyer a label.

Should I be able to see the tracking number in the return case? Because I don't. I guess that is where my concern is coming from. Have read of stories where buyers end up losing out on their refund because tracking wasn't added even though used the return label provided.

There should be a number on the label. Under the barcode if no where else.
If necessary, put the tracking number into the dispute yourself.

That is the problem, it doesn't allow me to. Error message that says they don't recognize the tracking number.

Have you used the label yet? The tracking number should appear in the case once you do. As it stands... if you haven't used it, eBay might not know if you're using the label they supplied, or buying a new one. Just thinking out loud...

I printed the label but haven't dropped it off yet. Decided to double check tracking before I do. Now I am nervous!

No, it's not there, and you're not seeing the tracking number on your Return Details page yet. You can enter it yourself by adding a digit zero ahead of the tracking number, e.g. 012345 if the tracking number is 12345. Did it work, @slaveofshopping?
Ebay didn't send you a return label because the seller didn't respond; they sent you a label because when you open a Not As Described return, the seller has to pay for the return shipping and ebay then gives the buyer a label.
Ebay did in fact send you a return label because the seller didn't respond; eBay sent you a label because when you start a Not As Described return request then ask eBay to step in, the seller has to pay for the return shipping and ebay then gives the buyer a label.

Once you actually use the shipping label that eBay provided, the tracking will show up in the return case. You're not seeing it because you haven't used it.
