Hi,
We have two methods on returns. Accept returns or not accept returns. What is the best? What is the best method for us as sellers.
Thanks

Please, by all means, do not list anything on eBay with the "seller does not accept returns" option, unless it's some kind of hazardous waste you need to get rid of. Unscrupulous buyers know that the eBay Money-Back-Guarantee trumps everything, and they can get just about anything on eBay without putting out any money of their own . Your "seller does not accept returns" statement just tells them they can keep the item, whatever it is, and still get a full refund before their credit-card payment is due. It just makes you an easier victim. Of course, if you list your items as returnable, that unscrupulous buyer can still keep the valuable item you sent him, and send you back a box full of rubbish, but it does put the ball in your court.
I've maintained an eBay 100% seller rating for >20yr. I've bought a lot of good things, and sold some, mostly as a result of seasonal housecleaning, but because of recent experiences with buyer fraud, I have become reluctant to offer items of established value on eBay. I do feel like eBay takes all forms of fraud seriously, but here are some additional measures that I would suggest:
1. eBay to remove the "seller does not accept returns" option from the returns menu. It's misleading, and an invitation to unscrupulous buyers.
2. eBay to provide the seller with more information on their prospective buyer's purchase history, slow payments, refunds, disputes etc. with seller's option to cancel sale.
3. eBay to once again allow negative feedback for buyers. What is feedback anyhow, if it's all positive; a violation of free speech?
4. eBay to inform seller if a prospective buyer's ID shows up on any other eBay member's blocked-bidder list.
All of this is just the ruminations of an old man, no better than anybody else's; love to hear yours.
Best Regards

I had to go in and check a couple of my sales to see what my return policy was...I couldn't remember. Been so long since I had one and I hope to God I did not jink myself there....
Anyway...I have Free Returns....and I see I use a lot of Promoted Listings. Guess I like living life right to the edge.

I'm just replying to this old post since it showed up in my search of this question, and perhaps someone may read it.
Multiple people have stated in this thread that offering no returns means that the buyer can get a full refund on a damaged, or not as described case and then they don't have to return the product. Basically getting a free item if they're a scammer. THIS IS FALSE!!
I personally have had a few instances of item bot as described/Damaged. I had to refund them of course, but not until they sent back the item with tracking. In one instance the person never sent anything back, and since the tracking shows they never used the label, I did not have to refund the buyer.
Yes, someone could mail me their socks instead of the item. That can happen regardless of if you do or don't accept returns. If someone plans on scamming you, they're going to scam you no matter what. I have only had to refund one person without them sending the item back, and it was my decision to have them keep the item. It was a cd based game, that was snapped in half. Could they have possibly scammed me, by already having the game broken and buying my copy and then sending pictures of their broken copy? Of course. By offering no returns, it just protects me from dealing with remorse buyers who are also too dumb to figure out how to work the system. I think a lot of buyers fall in that category.
I once had a buyer who bought a game, then said they already bought the same game and to cancel the order. I had already mailed it out. They then opened a claim saying it was not as described or some such. Ebay automatically refunded them, letting them keep the item. However they refunded the buyer out of their own money, and I was able to keep the money from the sale.
Lastly, the other day I sold a game case, and manual. No actual game. The seller messaged me saying they did not realize it had no game. Pictures and the description did say no game was included. I offer no returns, but in reality it's always my choice. I told them they could return it, but they'd have to pay the shipping. I then searched ebay for just the missing game, which was just about the same as returns shipping, and recommended they just get the game to complete the case and manual. Which they agreed was easier for them, saving the hassle and time of mailing it back to me on their dime.
So "No Returns" does not mean the buyer keeps the item and get refunded if they open a claim. It does not mean you can't let a buyer return something they changed their mind on, if they pay for the shipping either. It does not make you more likely to experience fraud. Since having free returns or no returns does not stop a scammer from scamming you in either case. Offering free returns means that buyers remorse type of buyers will have a less difficult time sending things back on your dime. I've met and dealt with a lot of dumb people over my lifetime. Not everyone is clever enough to pull off a not as described scam to get something returned if they actually just changed their mind. No Returns protects you from them.

I had a customer say and item was broken shipping but refused to send me pictures of the box or the damage so that I could submit it for a claim to the post office. eBay gave them their money back and the shipping and now they have my item and I don't have any documentation to file a claim with the post office. What can I do?
