I purchased an item and a tracking number was issued, but then the item was never checked into the post office. I waited until after I was supposed to received the item to issue a item not received dispute with a request for my money back, and lo and behold, the item was received at the post office the next day.
The seller has not been responsive at all, and appears to be new.
My question is how should I proceed? Should I cancel the dispute because it's in the mail, or should I wait? I don't want eBay to step in on my behalf and refund my money if I end up receiving the item, but I also don't want to close any avenues for disputing shady behavior.
Thanks!

You do not have to ask eBay to step in, unless the item still never arrives. Eventually, the case will automatically close with no refund.
But if the item arrives, and it is not as described, you will need to close the case --
to open another case for not as described, get a prepaid return label, or ask eBay to step in to help.

Leave it be for now. If you close the case and do not receive the item, you don’t have any recourse as far as I know. I’m not 100% on that but I don’t know if they can reopen cases even with the customer support. If the case closes automatically because you haven’t received the item within the allotted time, make sure to repay the seller if you receive the item as they will have the funds taken from them. When you get the item, make sure to close the case if it has not already automatically closed. Go from there with an item is not as described or whatever if needed.

do not close the dispute untill you have the item.

This makes sense, and the wording on the page suggests that I will have a choice after time passes. I just wanted to avoid having an automated refund on the seller, who seems to have had a hard time getting to the post office. I do have to say starting the "did not receive" process lit a fire under them and got them to ship.
