Hello, I recently bought a ps3 about a month or two back off eBay, and today I wake up (having played no MP games, mind you) to find it's hardware banned due to previous cheating. The seller failed to mention the console had been hardware banned, and advertised it as a fully functional PS3 with internet capabilities such as connecting to PSN. This is not the case. The seller also does not accept returns. I put in a return request, but should I contact eBay as well to get this sorted? Or am I SOL? Because there's no way this is acceptable, right? I was sold a defective product under the pretense of it being anything but.

The case will play out the same whether it is filed with 'doesn't work' or 'item not as described', so don't worry about it - in fact, it is both (doesn't work so not as described).

Sony isn't supporting the PS3 online much longer so it won't really matter.

You have 30 days from delivery to file with eBay or 180 from purchase date to file with paypal if that is how you paid. If you paid by credit card as you always should, contact your card company if the first two can't help.
That is a real danger when you purchase an item neither buyer or seller fully own. It's all in the hands of a third party these gaming systems.

Thanks for the response, I had already opened a return case but under "Doesn't work or defective". If I cancel the request, will it allow me to reinstate it under "item not as described" or will I be barred from then reopening the case?

In addition to the previous reply -- no, don't cancel the request. You only get one chance, so if you close it, you won't be able to open a new one on eBay (if it's within the 30 day limit for eBay). But, as was said, it doesn't matter because "doesn't work or defective" is perfectly appropriate.

Does Sony not notify of a banned console as soon you login? Microsoft certainly does but as mentioned above it won't matter soon anyway bc they are dropping support. You also said it was a month or two ago so if it's 30 days past delivery the seller doesn't have to do anything.

Please stop posting unconstructive & unrelated comments. This topic has already been solved; regardless, a hardware ban effectively renders the system useless to me as I can't connect to the internet in any form, cannot update games, use the store, anything.
