I can't seem to get a live agent to speak to.  Both Ebay and the seller are evading my correspondence to my return request.  Can anyone please assist me with this?

Provide some details and we can probably assist. You haven't told us anything like the date you received the item, why you wish to return it, what the seller's return policy says, whether or not you filed a return request through eBay and the status of that, or any other relevant info.

Are you requesting a return through messaging the seller? If that is how you're doing it it's no wonder you believe your request is being evaded. Returns don't work like that.

Go to your purchase history. 
Locate the drop down menu next to the item you want to return.

Click Return this item.

Select the most appropriate reason to return.

You may be required to upload an image to complete the return request.

Once submitted, the seller will have 2 days to issue a return label or send a refund if they don't want the item back. 
If after 4 days you don't receive a label or refund you can go back to the return request to ask eBay to step in.
