Return to Sender

A package arrived today from USPS 'return to Sender' 'attempted Not known' 'unable to forward'

How should I handle this? Package was unopened and I heard nothing from the buyer. I offered free shipping on this item.

Re: Return to Sender

Wait to hear from the buyer, if they still want you can charge for reshipping.  If they no longer want it or there is no response you can refund minus the original shipping cost, or cancel the transaction and refund in full.

Re: Return to Sender

I would email the buyer and tell them.  I would just refund minus the shipping and relist.  Make sure that you block them.  If they post a negative,  call ebay and have it removed.   Buyers are supposed to have a valid and correct address on file.

Re: Return to Sender

Contact them.  If they respond and want it still, you have to have them pay you for the return shipping.  If they don't respond try again after a few days, then a few more days do it again.  After that...I personally would relist the item.  You did your job and if they don't respond to repeated messages, I would not refund them.  I have had this happen 1 or 2 times in all my years of selling.  It is their responsibility to provide you with a valid address, and if they don't bother to respond after all of this I say move on.

Re: Return to Sender

FREE shipping doesn't  mean conditional free shipping. Shipping with conditions like not free if you return it is not free shipping.  You can deduct buyer paid shipping but the buyer paid zero so you deduct zero and refund or ask them to pay to reship it.

By doing nothing unless you hear from your buyer.

Do NOT contact the buyer.

Re: Return to Sender

I just had a package return to sender - buyer didn’t include apartment number. I’ve read that many people cancel and refund in full for “problem with buyers address” — I will only do this if I haven’t shipped because once you pay for postage it goes to USPS and once the label is used, eBay nor post office will reimburse. I know, cause I just got done chatting with eBay’s customer service rep they say if the package is return to sender due to buyers mistake you absolutely should deduct shipping at the time of issuing the refund! Hope this helps 🙂

Re: Return to Sender

The problem with free shipping is that they can contest the partial refund/deduction much easier and get the full refund anyways.

If the shipping was separate from the item then It would be easier because you just refund the item.
